Hello, how are you guys?
As the title says, what search Ingine are you currently using? I used DuckDuckGo for years, and just recently switched to Brave.
Also, what do you think about the Brave Browser? I have been using FireFox since forever.

I trust more the DDG search ingini, brave kinda sucks ass.
At the end I switched back to DDG.
Used Brave for a bit during August and liked it (mainly their Discussions feature) but stopped using it since I always liked Startpage. I see a few mentions of Mojeek here, so I’ll give it a shot

We’re always on the lookout for feedback so if you use us again or are willing to send in the searches then it really helps us improve, the Eval Page is also worth mentioning for sending us these in a more interactive way. There’s a new testing algo up there currently.
Tried Brave Search and felt like it was the closest to Google Search, in terms of a modernized-feel and good UI/UX, but after reading about the company and their questionable ethics, I switched to DDG instead. I’ll sacrifice my experience to avoid the more suspect company
Yes, mate. Same for me. DDG has been around for longer.

No offense but I am not sure why people trust duckduckgo or brave. Brave for the obvious concerns with controversy surrounding their CEO. And duckduckgo for essentially being diet bing.
And the Duck also has a sketchy CEO

Brave is an ad company. Don’t use Brave.
For the record, I use SearXNG with Librewolf
I am so curious about LibreWolf. I am gonna try it soon on my daily laptop (Linux of course 😂).
I’ve been using it for a long time, I haven’t run into any issues with it.
I use all of them, at once, with searx.
I use Brave Search and Firefox. But sometimes i have to use Chromium for compatibility issues although it is so rare.

I did a quick search, but I didn’t find any comparison between the two, so I just asked about it.

Long time FF user, new Brave user. Turning off all the bloat in Brave makes it basically Chromium. Reason I’m switching is like FF, Brave has a self-hosted sync, however unlike Firefox, Brave has a tabbed user experience on Android tablets. If FF had that, I would not be switching.
I see where you are coming from, but at the end Firefox is just better from a privacy point of view (open source).
Brave is also open source.
I didn’t know that, but after reading all these comments, its CEO doesn’t look like pro privacy, am I wrong? Maybe, but for now I stick with FireFox.
No clue, but Brave was billed as a privacy focused browser. It regularly rates about the same as Firefox (by reviewers) for privacy unless you use custom FF configs which can go further. I’ve built and compiled both from scratch (contributing), and don’t have concerns with either, though I prefer FF.
Using privacy and Brave in the same sentence is a quite a leap.

I’d never get into the Brave ecosystem. Have been trialing Kagi, it’s been doing on par with Google thus far but I haven’t trialed it hard.
Kagi isn’t FOSS or privacy focused
I primarily user Startpage and DuckDuckGo. With all the controversies surrounding it and its founder, I can’t bring myself to trusting Brave.

Same here. Mojeek is getting better, ddg because I seem to find what I need with it.
More people should give Mojeek a shot and maybe even join their forum so you can propose ideas for improvement.
The important stuff for privacy is his stance on “accidentally” injecting Brave crypto referral links into user sessions and defending it as a way to make money because he got Mozilla to use Google for cash. Eich will sell your data when he decides it’s the best way for Eich to make money. I got into a Twitter slap fight with him around then about the incongruity of his desire to track and sell users. He doesn’t care. Brave also has VC funding from non-privacy actors which means it’s only a matter of time before everything is monetized. Brave’s layoffs come as Brave is working on monetizing everything its free users do.

Same here, I mostly use brave search with occasional
!ecos. Although, both companies have made questionable stuff in their browsers (ddg – not blocking m$ trackers, brave – similar stuff with trackers, don’t remember which, plus the whole affiliate link debacle).In the end, the best thing is to use Firefox with Ads / Trackers Blocker.
Brave seems alright as a search Ingine, but its CEO looks fishy so I am not sure if I am gonna keep using it.
I’d recommend a searxng instance.
