Only for Internet Today. I can’t believe they are not a bigger channel. After I left reddit and Twitter, they keep me up to date on all of the stuff I don’t see. I just want to help the algorithm.

Almost never subscribe other than to YouTubers that rarely post something (looking at you, Robbaz). I remember the few channels I follow for some specific series and look for them if there hasn’t been a video in my feed.

Very rarely on other platforms like lbry and peertube. Don’t have a Google account and use a YouTube frontend

I sometimes like commenting on YouTube videos, and reading the comments. The videos I’m on do not seem to have anywhere near as bad as the received wisdom of the comments being a cesspool. but that might just be me.

YouTube comments are wildly hit or miss. You either get funny memes, thank you changed my life, or absolute garbage not worth reading.

But as you said it definitely depends on the actual creator and the type of content.

I don’t have a Google account, so that’s not possible. I don’t use YouTube directly to watch it either.

Though I rarely commented when I had an account. There’s nothing of value. Content creators I’m following have other means to reach them.

I use third party clients so no

Same, in use freetube because none of the web clients work right for me

No. YouTube comments are a cesspool.

I will hit the like button on a video I really like. I will comment if I have a question, but not to simply join in on the “discussion” for the purpose of engagement. I will subscribe if the channel is actually good. I won’t do these things because a voice in the video suggests it to me, but because I finally decide, “This content author actually makes something worth watching.”

I have about 50 channels subscribed. Of those, about half are actively uploading videos. Of those, about half upload videos very regularly, and the others very irregularly.

Would love to, but there’s no way I’m using the account that has root access to my mobile computer in order to write random comments on the internet. To me that just seems absolutely screwed up. And I’m not renting a separate phone number, which is the only way to create a properly sandboxed Google account.

So, sorry Google, I’ll let you manage my mobile OS because there’s no easy alternative, but I will not use any of your services or voluntarily give you any information about me on any of your platforms. And of course I will mercilessly block any and all ads I see anywhere. In my case at least, you will be providing your service for literally zero $ with zero prospect of monetization. That’s the price to pay for trying to privatize our digital lives.

I keep my subscription proxied through Piped, and I back it up when I change my subs. Also if you create an account on one of the Piped instance you get an RSS feed of your subscriptions.

I subscribe, set my bookmark to go straight to the subs page so I don’t miss anything. No need to “ring the bell” if your feed is only people you subscribed to. Once in a while, I’ll go to the home page to see if anything interesting is recommended.

I use Unlock Origin to manually block all the junk in the feed - “shorts”, “YT premium content”, “trending now” etc.

I know it’s terrible for privacy.

In UB popup when you click the extension, there’s a “color picker”/“eye dropper” icon, click that, click what you want gone and it’ll give you a preview. Click okay and poof, it’s gone.

If you want to undo, go to the full settings page, one of the tabs is user filters (or custom filters), and you’ll see everything you’ve blocked.

Hell no, last thing I’m going to do is let the Goog know what I like and don’t.

Yes. 99% of what i use YT for these days is to follow the crafters i’ve been following for years, and part of the way to support them is liking and commenting on their videos. That’s what keeps me from moving to frontends or NewPipe.

Pretty much same thing. I want niche creators to see that their content is appreciated (in lack of paid subscription), and Piped with a bunch of other frontends are simply not a way for this.

I don’t tend to content but I will like because I can tell then the videos I’ve watched
