Wanna share my experience too here.
I used YouTube with the algorithm, mostly for educational stuff, like vsauce, kurgsat and tech stuff. I started showing some interest in politics and news, start watching tldr news, then it pulls me into Vox, as I showed some anti trump sentiment. To put it quickly, it didnt take too long for me to realise that I was being drawn to ever more left leaning content (obviously a lot further than merely Vox, second thought and deeper)
Which is why I left algorithmic YouTube by using alternative frontends
Don’t get too comfy. Eu wants to make a similar law https://www.wired.com/story/csar-chat-scan-proposal-european-commission-ads/
You said performance doesn’t matter. It does. If you have an older system or a system that due to Microsoft’s strict windows 11 requirement feels slow or is not able to have the latest OS, Linux can be quite worthy, as it tends to be quite lightweight. For simpler use cases, like general web browsing or simpler file editing, open source utilities are very much usable and delightful to use. In Linux, you will never (unless NVIDIA is thrown to the mix or some pesky Wi-Fi cards) have driver issues. Printers, that horrible nightmare on windows, are actually usable on Linux. For more complex documents, nowadays, with the improvements in wine, you can pretty much just install a better office suite. And for slightly more than basic users, the customisation is more than worth the slight inconvenience Linux may cause. Also, sometimes Linux just gets new features first, like workspaces, something that only came to windows 11, and has existed for years on Linux
And what i have for you today is an app that says they’ve locked my phone. Now ofc, as you can see, this is clearly a scam, observable through the messy language and the claim that 500$ is enough to get you off an accusation of treason. Now, I’ll show you how this can be opened quite easily, and how rudimentary this is a lock. If you press the home button it’s already enough to let you see that this is merely a crappy app running on your phone, potentially installed instead of a desired piece of software (in my case it was a calculator app) and as such, it’s easy to get rid of it and there’s nothing to fear. You can also merely close the app and remove all background processes related to it quite easily. Thanks for watching and have a nice day
You have 4 basic options for funding:
-you rely on individual donations which doesn’t bring in enough money
-you force people to pay for it, which makes it less attractive when compared to traditional software, and makes much of the community pissy
-you rely on corporate money
-you rely on government money
None is perfect, but some amount of government funding (let’s say, 10% of what they would pay Microsoft for the equivalent software) might make sense
