There’s an ongoing cat and mouse game with Google and third-party (unsanctioned) apps that are not illegal so Google is actively trying to break them all. Some changes might affect one platform and not others.

Some players seem to be unaffected by Google’s latest latest round of shenanigans. For example, NewPipe with MX Player as an external player works fine for me, both from home and from work, while NewPipe’s internal player doesn’t.
Also, remember that possibly only half of everybody is affected, as Google is probably still A/B testing their new nasties.
Newpipe just pushed a new version that accounts for the recent youtube changes. It works as of a few minutes ago.
Currently Grayjay is working for me, but Freetube isn’t. Hopefully Google settles down with its YouTube fiddling soon so the app makers can just crack it once and we can all get on with it lol.
There was a freetube workaround that worked for me: Set API to invidious Disable fallback Disable the invidious override thing in the player settings section Set the invidious instance to one close to your location (type https:// in the field to get suggestions)
That seems to work for the moment.
Tested playing a video with an Invidious instance right now and it worked. Did you try another instance ?
Dunno.
