There’s an ongoing cat and mouse game with Google and third-party (unsanctioned) apps that are not illegal so Google is actively trying to break them all. Some changes might affect one platform and not others.

there’s a ton of pirated and questionable content

It’s easier and more productive to just remove bad instances as they’re added than it is to scower all the different instances and pick and choose which ones to federate with.

PeerTube is a nice idea but almost all instance owners don’t enable much federation, if any.

I had to create my own and set it to auto-federate with others.

And still there’s a large lack of interesting content or stability or usable clients.

Also the sorting is completely out of whack. If I click on “trending” videos, the top ones are usually several months old.

There also a whole lot of non-English content with no way to filter it.

Did they though? Certainly their customers did. Crowdstrike did or will. But Microsoft? What’re their customers gonna do?

They’re not spreading themselves thin. Believe it or not you can’t just throw more people and money at problems and expect them to disappear.

They can have different people working on Proton Drive and Proton Wallet simultaneously.

Bruh I use frontends to get away from those shitty algorithms…

It’s a good thing you came in here to tell everyone you don’t want to use a product that you don’t have to.

I don’t want to use Tampax. Fuck off Tampax.

Believe it or not, some people like and use cryptocurrency.

They explain why in the blog post.

You can hold your own keys, but that can be dangerous. Letting someone else hold them can also be dangerous.

This allows someone else to hold them and manage them without giving them any control or even knowledge.

Zood location is probably better than this.

Both are useless to me because neither of them have iOS counterparts.

I’ve never seen a private messaging app that supported this feature.

You can use it for all the same things you can at any other time, as I said. Still not sure what your point is.

Define “worked” in this context.

You can still exchange funds as normal because no necessary components or intermediaries were affected by the outage. Only conventional banking systems.

That’s really interesting. For example it says GOS phones can’t be accessed past 2022. But if you had confiscated a GOS phone in, say, 2020, and just waited for that particular vulnerability to rear it’s head, you could access it and all of its’ contents.

And I mean I guess they can also illegally (and whose gonna stop them) force you to open your phone with a passcode or pattern as well.

You would stop them. By not giving it to them.

Of course there’s always torture, which cops have been known to do, but is probably “unlikely”.

newer Pixel and iPhone models seem to be the most resilient to these attacks

Pretty much exactly what one would expect, honestly. Especially with so many Android OEMs lacking critical security updates.

Its just a people-searching tool similar to Spokeo or Intelius or one of hundreds of others. Nothing new.

Some might be shocked to see what kind of info you could find. Other more knowledgeable people know this is a thing that has existed for a long long time.

Not a whole lot, honestly. Wear a mask and sunglasses sometimes.

If you were determined/sensitive you could attach IR lights/battery to a hat that will blow out the image on a CCTV camera without drawing too much attention from those around you.

Gait detection is also a thing that hiding your face won’t stop. You’d have to just constantly put a rock in different places in your shoes or break a leg LOL

They also make devices that will blow out microphones in close proximity.

Yes. One from Palmetto State Armory (sold to Norton LifeLock) and also Outside Inc. (BikeReg, Trailforks) sold my info to many many companies.

Some others such as GoDaddy email me relentlessly from a dozen different emails and even switched to different domains (godaddy2.com, e.godaddy.com, etc) after I blocked them before domain expiry of domains I’ve already moved off their service. Fortunately I used an alias and eventually just disabled the address.

It’s also a great way to have your server completely overwhelmed with traffic but yeah.

To be 100% sure? Host it yourself.

I mean for privacy, not really. Then the site in question is logging all of your activity from your personal IP, as opposed to an IP shared with others.

Eh. You can inspect the source code. Certainly there’s no way to verify they haven’t modified the source code but also why would they modify it to store your IP?

It’s always been in their privacy policy. There just wasn’t a checkbox.

and do not need that extra power for the games ey play.

Then they can spend less money on a less powerful ATX system. I don’t understand where the confusion is coming from.

It does work that way. You just type the creator’s name into the cross platform search engine.

What VPN are you using?
I use Proton. But I continue to run into more and more websites and services that detect my VPN and refuse my connection, or just run literally 40 captchas in a row until I just give up. I use Proton because it has a "suite" of products under a single subscription, but that benefit is losing it's allure as some of their products are pretty shitty from a user experience perspective, their customer support is atrocious, and they don't seem to pay any attention to what their users actually want. Does anyone track known VPN servers? Is there a specific provider that causes less problems? Does anyone test different VPNs for detection? Thinking about cancelling my subscription and moving to Mullvad.

How to prevent link hijacking on sites like Facebook, Reddit and Twitter?
Lately I've noticed some mainstream sites injection tracking links into literally every link on their site. When I hover over it, it shows the correct link at the bottom of my browser, but if I click it or copy it, it takes me to a hijacked tracker link. Then I can't even get the original link without having my activity tracked. How do I get the original link that appears at the bottom of my browser?
