Heya, as the title suggests. I have tried the KDE Initary (on mobile), but the user experience didn’t quite flop-my-mop. It is however the better one in terms of privacy as far as I have found. Are there any other ones that you folks know of and would recommend? Looking for an app that specifically can hold boarding passes.

Thanks in advance :=)

If you need something to store pkpass files: fWallet https://f-droid.org/packages/business.braid.f_wallet/

Sadly most of my flights come in pdf files, not pkpass.

Well, then there’s also this:

Green Pass PDF Wallet https://f-droid.org/packages/com.michaeltroger.gruenerpass/

Extremely simple functionality but it does exactly what’s on the tin

I use Anytype (anytype.io) on my phone and desktop. I make a page for each trip and add screenshots of confirmations, maps, itinerary, etc.

Anytype is similar to Notion but is open source and encrypted locally.

I just installed Anytype to give it a try, and on first launch it tried to connect to:

Their android app seems to be full of trackers, not very privacy friendly.

I looked at some of these on my own and found:

  • graylog provides data privacy and protection services for companies offering software as a service (SaaS). So this seems legit to me and needed for their core functionality. It is not a marketing or data analytics company.

  • amplitude appears to be a data analytics company and on the surface is not needed and Anytype should explain this.

  • sentry appears to be an application error tracking company and this seems a legit connection

  • api2 seems like a generic server name and likely needed for their core functionality, this seems legit to me

  • telemetry also seems like a generic server name; however, the purpose, based on its name does not seem to be needed. Anytype should explain this as well.

Anytype has responded and I had a couple other clarifying questions. Their first response:

“Hi! In our privacy policy we include Amplitude & Sentry & explain why we work with them: anytype.io/app_privacy. Currently, you can opt-out by electing local-only or self-hosted network Mode”

Sentry is only used for bug tracking and I don’t have any issue or privacy concerns with that.

I had already looked on their website for a privacy policy and the only one I could locate was a website only privacy policy. I learned later that the application privacy policy is buried as a link somewhere within the website privacy policy. This is not very easy to find.

I reviewed the application privacy policy and it conflicted with their answer stating that a user could opt out of information sharing with Amplitude by using “local only” or “self-hosted”. So I pointed this out and posted this reply to them:

“Also, app privacy policy section for Amplitude states: Amplitude Analytics Purpose: deliver behavioral and app usage data. Opt-out possible: NO”

This is the response I received:

“Indeed this is outdated information, as it was written before self-hosting and local-only mode were properly configurable. Opt-out is now possible using these methods, and we will be updating the policy accordingly.”

I’ve contacted Anytype about this and will post their response.

I run Graphene OS on my phone and have an always on VPN connection. Plus I use a different email address, username, and password for 99% of my accounts. So I don’t worry about telemetry, analytics, or data marketing anymore.

Did you receive an answer yet?

Can you share other alternatives that are fully opensource to create a knowledge base? The only services I know similar to these are notebook managers.

Does Joplin do what you need?

Never tried it because it lacked cloud sync, but now that I know about Syncthing/Nextcloud I might take a look at it.

There is also the option to selfhost a Joplin server, or pay the devs for Cloud Sync.

I am going on trips with Anytype as well. Worked fantastically for my last two week-long trips. Relatively quickly, you can prepare on your PC an itinerary with files such as boarding passes, tickets, both as a normal file and embedded images to show at gates and similar. You can copy-paste e-mails, information from the web, links (URLs, etc. with additional context). Prepare for your travels, tick off things to do before leaving for your trip as well as creating tasks (as reminders, though without an actual reminder in your notification bar on mobile. You have to check the app for them.) to do before each day on the trip. All of this can be dumped into a single “page”, or organized into a hierarchical structure annotated by tags, relations between the objects and more.

To put it simply, I always find something missing in various itinerary apps. Anytype gives me the freedom to input every and all type of information I need for and during the trip.

Slight warning: If you input the files on PC, you need to them click on them (download them to your local storage) in the mobile as well. Then you can access them without requiring connection to the internet from your mobile later on. If you do this, everything you put in your Anytype itinerary will be accessible offline. Ideally, try accessing everything on mobile when your Wi-Fi and data connections are turned off.

I tried Anytype way back when it came out, but felt a bit unfinished at the time, might give it a re-try to see how it is now and maybe hopefully find a app to replace obsidian haha

Agreed, they are continually improving it

It is way better now, but it is still a work-in-progress, especially regarding some more advanced features (none of which I found myself missing when on trips) and some polishing (not enough man-power to polish everything as of now).

Totally going to use flop-my-mop elsewhere, but urban dictionary doesnt have an entry about it I think? 🫢😁👍

Curious about suggestions but for itinerary I just use “event folders” like “20240801 France” and I put every pdf, jpg, gpx, mail I have in it.

And during planning sometimes export website pages, wiki entries to pdf etc. Routes in gpx, POI in KML etc.

Jiggle-my-wiggle! ;D

Yeah maybe I should give itinerary a more thorough try. I am a big KDE fan, but the user experience for this app on mobile isn’t amazing.
