I’ve been trying to find an alternative to Life360 that doesn’t use Google/Apple map data.
If I could find a similar app that uses OpenStreetMap data, that would be fantastic.
I’ve been recommended a plugin for OsmAnd which allows location sharing through telegram. This wouldn’t be ideal as none of my family uses Telegram.
Edit: my original post on !openstreetmap@lemmy.ml

much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)
If you have a Nextcloud instance, then https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/phonetrack might work.

The F-Droid version (which is available on IzzyOnDroid’s repo) utilizes OSM. You’ll need a server to sync the data to though and it likely does not have all of the features that Life360 has.
That looks interesting. I was kind of expecting that it might be challenging to find exactly what I am looking for.
I use FindMyDevice from Fdroid. I have a few contacts who can ping me with an sms text and it responds with my coordinates and a link to OSM.
They don’t use the app you’re asking for either.
Maybe look into Home assistant or nextcloud
True. I thought I’d do the research anyways.
