X’s move to make people pay for a basic form of two-factor is problematic. It also created confusion because the company prompted free users to switch away from SMS two-factor, but then seemingly simply turned off the protection altogether for those who didn’t. This likely left a group of users in a situation where they think they have two-factor authentication on, but actually don’t.
Privacy has become a very important issue in modern society, with companies and governments constantly abusing their power, more and more people are waking up to the importance of digital privacy.

Delete the account. Very safe
Step 1: Delete your account.
Step 2: Celebrate!
Paying for 2FA seems to be a new low. And I’m not sure i could use any service that tried that.
Fucking delete it! Don’t support nazi social media.
I was under the impression that two factor via SMS was disabled for free users, but you could still use OTP apps.
I have no idea if sms (ew) is an option, or if it is paid limited, but yeah I’ve had TOTP for years on my account and it’s still working fine, no financial transactions made, so…
Not using twitter is an easy solution.
I have a great solution for this problem: Stay away from Elon’s Nazi shithole, also known as X
For all other accounts, use 2FA via TOTP or U2F
Not having one or deleting it seems like a great option at this point.
