I looked at your other comments on lemmy for 30 sec and found that you are clearly joking. So glad everyone understands sarcasm.

I was thinking a vibrator from a device with haptics, but if that’s what you want, go for it.

One of the rare cases where this is a serious option: just don’t buy it. People say that for phones that spy on you, but that’s ridiculous because that is quite hard for some people. This is not. Use a regular toothbrush. Duck tape a vibrator motor to the handle if you really feel like that helps. You don’t need the ai, and it is unlikely that you will only ever be able to buy ai toothbrushes.

Ollama with open webui if you have a computer lying around. I’m able to run the 7b models on a 1050ti. Be warned if you haven’t hosted stuff, it’s a rabbit hole.

I had one through them. I had an issue where the registry (not registrar, this was gen.xyz that did it) took the domain because abuse (I have no clue what). Njalla’s support was completely unhelpful, so I moved to porkbun, and I must say, porkbun was indeed an oddly satisfying experience.

As for your questions, I don’t know one or two, but I can tell you njalla wasn’t a scam as of a month or two ago when I used it.

Not who you asked, but I think some might argue that it would be a scam if you ordered it and it didn’t arrive or something like that. If it works against one facial recognition model than technically it is just bad marketing. Either way is bad, though.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t exist without the API. You could use the normal frontend and container tabs for ff. They are an extension, but it’s made by Mozilla and integrates quite well. You can even automate it so Reddit always opens in a specific container.

You ever search any torrent tracker for anything not very specific? 80% of the results are porn.

I’ve tried to remove the banner with ubo on firefox and it has never worked. I think google is doing some weirdness with it.

I’ve seen that most commonly with tor, vpns could cause it to.

Edit: It is not (usually) them deliberately breaking vpns, they block brute force attacks based on public ip instead of a cookie or something.

People are aguing about the reparability thing a lot. Current electric cars are less reparable, but that is by design. Car manufacturers are using electric as an excuse to make cars harder to repair. The reality is that electric motors and batteries are dead simple, they just add a bunch of techno bullshit to make them worse. Charging is bad right now, but that will improve with time, just like gas did when gas cars were new. I like cars, and hate seeing them being turned into what they are today, but there is nothing fundamentally different about electric cars to make them the piles of absolute garbage they are, (apart from battery technology not being great right now). 90% of the problems with electric cars are there by design, and I think everyone should buy a car that isn’t designed to suck, whether it’s gas, electric, steam, or fart powered.

Skimming the article, it appears they attacked a particular client that is popular in Korea.

You could buy a cheap vps and host your stuff there with basic html that you could learn as you go if you don’t know already. I think their are pre made licenses that you could put on there to stop ai training. You could also hide pages on it full of garbage data for anyone who ignores the license to get bad results.

Respond with “I think it is a scam. The website seems pretty sketchy.”

Are you saying you DON’T want to protect the children??? You monster! /s

Edit: “Are you saying 9/11 didn’t change everything, because 9/11 changed everything” --Peter Griffin (I may have the quote wrong, but it was something like that)

Not who you asked, but there are plenty. GPT4all is pretty good. You could check out locallama on Lemmy for more.

Yeah. The school I go to uses MAC based blocking on their network, and it is otherwise an open network.

To add to that, (or maybe you said this, forgive me if so I am sick RN and my brain is not working optimally), there’s no such thing as a trusted network, and many ways to trick devices into connecting. Evil twins are clones of nearby networks that you will connect to instead. There’s also an attack where your device is actively sending out requests to connect to saved networks, and an attacker can simply respond to that request to get you to connect, and authenticate regardless of what password you send.

I haven’t used telegram, but in general this is the correct solution.

How do you grow a disk in linux? I am tempted to make a joke about planting hard drive seeds but I do genuinely want to know what you mean.

I wish I could have a fingerprint and a pin with a limited number of attempts. Plus a password after like three failed pin attempts. I think that would be a pretty good balance between security and convenience.

Apart from privacy concerns, if they aren’t near people with iPhones it wouldn’t work that well.

I agree about most of that, but I am curious what is wrong with graphene os. I use it but if there is a reason not to I would like to know what you recommend.

Replace www. With safe. Or you can get an extension to do that automatically.

They are created by “the team behind” an SEO company and their privacy policy doesn’t look great. They do use their own indexing though.

FYI about VPNs, they encrypt unencrypted traffic only part of the way. Everything is still unencrypted between the VPN server and the server you are connecting to. Just thought I’d say this because a lot of VPN ads are very misleading about this.

The better option is not to use windows at all, but if you are, I don’t think disabling windows defender will stop them from getting whatever they want anyway.

If it is local network stuff you could see if you can allow it just network connection but no internet. I’m not sure how you could do that though.

I have seen that too. I didn’t find anything but will definitely be keeping an eye on this post.

I agree that the “I have nothing to hide” argument is wrong, but could you not use the word normies? I think when people who visit this community see stuff like that it seems kinda gatekeepy even if that isn’t the intent.

Turn on your browser history for a while then use that.

How to get a private car
Hello internet users. Someone in my family is looking to buy a car and wanted some recommendations for a private one. They are looking to buy new, and need Android Auto and CarPlay. I know all new cars suck for privacy by default, but I was hoping someone here could offer some insight as to which cars can be made better and what cars offer the best experience with minimal compromises on privacy and no subscription bs. I also have a Home Assistant instance that they can access remotely if there are any cars that can work well with that. Edit: Android auto and CarPlay aren't as important as I thought.

Find-My alternatives
Hello. I just got a google pixel with grapheneos, and would like a way to use Apple's find-my or something similar with family members who still use Apple. I would like something open source that can either proxy my location to Find My or serve as an alternative. I know these apps and services are inherently not private but I do need it so please don't be the guy to say "just don't use it," I would if it were an option. Thanks.

Herd Mentality in this Community
Hi. I recently had some issues with my lemmy client which made me accidentally post the exact same thing here twice. The posts were about privacy on my school issued computer. I could have made it more clear, but I wanted privacy from the companies that make their spyware not from the school that owns the computer. Anyway, as of now one post has more than 40 upvotes and less than 5 down. The other has 10 up and 5 down as well as significantly less helpful and more critical comments. My hypothesis is whether the early comments were helpful or critical determined what other people said. I am curios to see what everyone thinks of this.

School Spyware
Hi. My school just started issuing devices last year, and they have this Lightspeed spyware on them. Last year I was able to remove it by booting into Linux from a flash drive and moving the files to a separate drive and then back at the end of the year. This year I have heard from sources that they have ways of detecting someone booting from Linux so I am hesitant to do that option. My only other idea is to buy an old laptop off eBay that looks like it and install Linux on it. I could probably get one for about 50€. Does anyone have any cheaper ideas? Oh also talking to IT isn’t an option.

/e/os vs graphene
Does anyone know how /e/os compares to graphene os for privacy? I am thinking of getting a murena fairphone which comes with /e/os but supports custom OSs and am leaning towards graphene, but don't know much about e.

Private & Pirate Gaming
Hi, I was originally going to post this in a piracy community, but I think it fits better here. I didn’t see anything in the rules about piracy, but I apologize if it (talking about it rather) isn’t allowed here. Anyway, I mostly use foss for better privacy, but I want to be able to fire up the occasional game. I haven’t played any proprietary games for a while, but would like to. I want to know how piracy impacts privacy. I imagine not having to phone home every 2min for drm would allow me to run offline, but I may want to play with friends or something, and was wondering generally what you all recommend for gaming. Obligatory info about my setup: CPU: Ryzen 5000 GPU: Nvidia 3000 ] OS: Debian 12 DE: Gnome (whatever version ships with deb 12) Whatever it’s called: x11 I also have a dedicated server if pi-hole blacklists exist for this. Another note: I apologize if this is considered the promotion of proprietary software, but I am more looking for tips on minimizing the risks of proprietary software rather than trying to promote it. For what it’s worth, I always try to convince my friends to switch to GNU+Linux as well as other foss. TLDR: How can I game privately on debian 12? Thank you in advance for any responses.
