South Korean telecommunications giant KT is under investigation for allegedly hacking customers who used torrent services.

The police believe that the motive behind this hacking was to reduce network-related costs, as torrent transfers can be costly for internet service providers. KT, however, claims that it was merely trying to manage traffic on its network to ensure a smooth user experience.

Sounds like they admit it but object to the negative tone lol

If a worker said this they would be accused of being lazy.

merely trying to manage traffic on its network to ensure a smooth user experience

Thats the equivalent of a “preemptive peacekeeping” mission. I’d have thought we’d see the UK be the first to something along these lines. 🙄

The only thing the Sith did wrong was not hire a queer person for their uniforms / outfits.

Korea lost net neutrality a few years ago sadly.

How? Torrents are checksumed by design.

Skimming the article, it appears they attacked a particular client that is popular in Korea.

Mitm a website and inject browser exploits? Scanning IP addresses they see downloading? A news article leaving out the vital parts is nothing new though m

Maybe they were just targeting with no actual action. Like they had their sights set on their cardboard tank.

They infected peoples computers with malware
