Your data is YOUR data!

An iPhone or an Android smartphone collects several megabytes of your personal data every day to Google Servers, even when it is inactive.

Murena smartphones have been designed to offer a different approach to users who care about privacy and data-hungry handsets.

Those smartphones are running the open-source “/e/OS” operating system, which is fully “deGoogled”: by default it doesn’t send any data to Google and it’s been designed to offer a great and natural user experience.

/e/OS is paired with carefully selected applications. They form a privacy-enabled internal system for your Murena smartphone. And it’s not just claims: open-source means auditable privacy.

They still use magic earth last time I checked.

Disable it and install something else. Problem solved.

Is that bad? I am trying out Organic maps now, but was usong Magic Earth before.

Its proprietary

Oh sweet summer child…

That’s by far not the only proprietary component in that or any phone.

True but we should minimize the about of proprietary software with the hopes one day we can eliminate it.

I hear there are some completely libre phones now but they only support 3G

Working proprietary software that respects your privacy is better than not-quite working FOSS IMHO, especially in an OS targeted at regular folks rather than exclusively at nerds like us.

I installed it on my Fairephone4. Have to say i’m pretty impressed, everything works fine including maps and bank application. They really managed microG well.

The only probleme I got in the last 6 month is that I can’t installe paying app on my phone. I created a google account to connect to the app store but the page to pay just never load. That’s not a big deal for me anyway.

I recommend if your phone is compatible.

I don’t contactless payment apps work on any deGoogled operating system. They require Google services which have been removed.

You couldn’t pay on Aurora Store?

Never use aurora with ur Google’s account except u don’t mind to loose it.

Similar experiences on the Fairphone 3. MicroG is fantastic - everything you unfortunately need from Google services, but in a way that maintains your privacy.

At least on the Fairphone 3, downloading an apk for the Google camera app turned out to be a lifesaver though - the open source camera applications were unfortunately not capable of producing as good pictures, which is very important to me. :)

Fairphone seems to work close together with eOS.

Too bad the Pixel is out of stock

Could always get one second hand. Currently using /e/OS on a OnePlus 6t, and its quick and smooth.

Honestly this phone is great for modding, cost about $75

I hate how /e/os looks so much like IOS. If i wanted IOS i would buy an iphone. That launcher and those icons make me never want to install it ever.

I agree but there are tons of other options if you prefer the look of Android. /e/OS is a good option for Apple users.

Believe they are reworking the launcher, Bliss, in an upcoming update

I don’t know how iOS looks, so no problem for me.

To be fair most people saying “[android/OEM skin] looks like iOS” also don’t know how iOS looks, they just think that having squircles and blur is being an iOS clone

I personally use it with Neo Launcher, which is FOSS, set it up to show round icons for this very reason you’re pointing out. Once done, the experience is great!

You can install your own launcher - I prefer the KISS launcher, which is great at getting out of your way and just do exactly what you want it to do as efficiently as possible.

Just to note that the Murena One is the same phone as the CoolPad Cool S

Not a great buy. /e/OS is interesting as a OS though. Some of the visual aspects are leagues ahead of vanilla Android.

I’ve been using it for like 3 years now on my Fairphone FP3(somewhat-plus)

It’s pretty usable.

But damn! That name is ridiculously bad.

They took “de-googled” so far that you can’t even “google” the project by it’s name. /s

It’s by far the worst part of the project. Any time you have a problem - however minimal - you have to search specifically in the community forum because there’s just no way in hell including /e/OS in the search terms is going to help you find anything useful at all.

Of course you can search for just “eos” alone, but when trying to troubleshoot specific issues it gets much more complicated. Believe me, I’ve been there.

Such as this issue, which I eventually found a solution to on the e/OS/ forums:
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=eos+camera+quality+%22fairphone+3%22&t=ffab&ia=web
The results have very little to do with /e/.

I never googled it - but that’s no surprise.
