Finally. One less extra launcher to become a nuisance? Blizzard games are finally coming to Steam with Overwatch 2 set to be the first on August 10th.

Damn it. Just when I bit the bullet and bought Diablo 4 on Battlenet. I bet whenever they launch Diablo 4 on Steam, they’ll not just transfer my license it to Steam.

Edit: FWIW I’m using the Battlenet launcher with Lutris, and so far it’s far less problematic than Epic. Hasn’t yet forgotten my log in and asked for password again like Epic does every few days which is super annoying (pretty sure this is how they operate on Windows also).

I feel you on this. I’ll be annoyed if they don’t offer some kind of migration.

That smells like desperation to get a higher playercount and paypiggies

Hell freaking yes! This was like…the only major barrier preventing me from permanently moving my desktop over to Linux from Windows. Now I need to check if I can get my Mbox to work and I’m golden.

If by Mbox you mean the sound device; I recently tried out Linux PopOS and my Mbox 2 Mini worked without a problem right from the Start

Wouldn’t you be fighting against other PC players? Good luck attempting to fight kb+m players on joysticks.

Some gamepad player are really good. Especially in Overwatch, which has characters like Mercy, Moira or Reinhardt that can provide value even without good aim.

Though Overwatch doesn’t have aim assist on pc, so it’s probably difficult even for most experienced gamepad players.

You can plug a mouse and keyboard into a Steam Deck.

yes but why would you? I mean I guess if it’s literally your only device but most steam deck users are going to have another computer.

I can play some other game on it as a handheld on the train and then dock it at my destination. A Steam Deck is also a really cheap computer that will still run most games.

Sure but if you are putting into a dock then you probably have a larger screen and a full desk setup. If it’s your only device then it makes sense but if you have another computer with monitors already then it doesn’t. I’m mainly talking about using Bluetooth to hook up a mouse and keyboard and to somehow work off that small screen far away from you. If you put it in a dock then you’ve essentially just turned it into a computer with monitors and anything else. So most of the time if you have monitors you are likely to have a whole other computer that’s likely to be more powerful than the deck. The deck is a powerful handheld but weak computer.

You probably do have that other setup, but there’s no reason we should say that my portable situation isn’t worth it. I’m not an Overwatch player, but I’m a fighting game player. I’m not playing those games competitively with the controls on the device, but with a portable monitor that fits in my backpack, I can set it up at my destination and use my Snackbox Micro when I get off the train.

I very specifically said if it’s your only device. I’m not dunking on your setup or saying it’s not worth it. I’m saying it only seems worth it to me if you have an extra monitor and no other computer around. Which you say is the exact case you are in.

@mojo @sirsquid the addition of gyro aiming makes it competitive, especially if it’s setup for flickstick or if you get used to using the right trackpad.

Maybe competitive in bronze rank lol

I know gyroscope aiming definitely helps and makes things better. But you’re delusional if you think it even somewhat closes the mile long gap between kb+m vs joystick. Games like Fortnite matchmaking based off of input device so hopefully they do something like that.

The sensor quality is at a deficit and the arm biomechanics likely are not a full match for those of mouse aiming in terms of range between the smallest and largest motions possible, but just the fact that gyro aiming uses absolute tracking of motions as mice do and is able to do microadjustments and flicks puts it much closer to the capabilities of mouse aiming than to stick aiming.

Tell me you’ve never played a competitive shooter without telling me lol. I’d love you to show me the best gyro aiming player and see how they compare to kb+m players. It’s not even close to being comparable, and any competitive player would laugh at that

There is no regulated competitive environment to find the best gyro players, the overall player base is tiny and has not existed for long compared to other input methods, and a high end performance gap of some size exists as I outlined in the comment above and can not effectively be closed at this time if it ever can be so mouse play inevitably comes out on top if not by a huge margin then at least by enough of one

That said just today some mobile shooter player that’s been using a gyro controller in aim trainers for a while posted a very short video with some tracking. It’s nothing special for mouse play, but if you have any footage of non-AA stick players with even remotely close to this degree of capability I would love to see it as they appear to be very rare, as well for anything with the extreme flick speeds routinely seen across mouse and gyro

The range of a stick is absolute crushed down to a tiny speck due to relying on the motions of a thumb and due to being a relative/time-based input instead of an absolute/distance-based input, the mechanical and sensor disadvantages of gyro aiming just do not go anywhere near that low with remotely modern gear

I play in a party of four, most times. Two of us on KB/M, two on controller. No problems.

It was a little tricky setting up for me, since I couldn’t get heroic to work on my computer. I will use steam in a hearbest though, much easier.
