I’ve been using Fedora for over a year instead of windows, I’m happy with it. It’s stable, easy to install the software I want, looks good. I’d say go for it!

Sometimes I think about distro hopping, but I think I’d rather do that on a second computer so that when I break it I’ll still have a working one.

You can try different kind of distros until you find the one that fits better for you. I was thinking to use Zorin OS for people that want to switch from Windows to Linux, and they basically need a word/browser/printer functions.

If you plan to keep playing games I recommend you Manjaro (as steam is using it to give support if I’m not wrong) or Garuda Linux which is like a Manjaro but more fancy. If you want a distro more nerdy you can try Artix with OpenRC which is also easy and fast, but you need some more knowledge.

I tried a lot of distros and I don’t see anything special on Fedora or any other Debian based distros. I recommend you Arch based distro to be able to use AUR to easily install any kind of app, and you can add https://aur.chaotic.cx/ repos to install them without compilation/build process.

The steam deck uses arch, not Manjaro (although Manjaro is based off arch). But ultimately it doesn’t matter too much what distro you use for gaming.

Arch is a weird recommendation for beginners, even with the better install process. The aur is nice but isn’t necessary imo. Fedora works fine, or I’d recommend mint for something a bit more “stable.” I’ve been using both for a while with minimal issues.

I have used Fedora and I still like more Arch for a stable distro, never had issues compared with others even messing with core packages or changing them, that’s why I always end up recommending Arch, their wiki is very powerful, knowledge is the key. While AUR has many packages that make it super easy to just install it and update all your system easily all in one command.
