I’m a former journalist, and created a free resource called DISENGAGE: Opting Out—and Finding New Options—to Reclaim Your Life from Spammers, Scammers, Intrusive Marketers and Big Tech.

It’s available in PDF and full text on the website, plus EPUB at Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Smashwords, and other retailers.

It costs $0. No email needed, no tracking, no affiliate links. It was a passion project and I’m just trying to get the word out.

(If you know anyone in the press who may want a hardcopy, i printed up a couple dozen in print format on my own dime…just let me know!)

Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing the TOC! Great idea.

My pleasure, thanks for sharing all this important knowledge!

PS: I have few related things on https://fabien.benetou.fr/Cookbook/DigitalSelfSovereignty so I’d be curious to hear your opinion on it.

Wow, that’s so thorough! It’s great. I also tried your Beyond Monopoly videos but they are way too advanced for me! :)

Ah… thanks! Well let me ask then, if there was another “Beyond Monopoly” video that could be less “advanced” what would you like it to be about?

Hmm…I’d say solutions for people who are not as tech savvy, and how to implement them. Even things as simple as how to change your default browser and search engine, suggestions for different OS’s and how to install them on any kind of computer, different options for Microsoft software, etc. For example, I’m on a Mac just because it’s still good and I don’t want to pay for a new one…I’d love either some simple ways to “harden” it and/or install Linux.

BUT…your audience is obviously more tech savvy and that’s OK too! I think we need info for all levels.

Wonderful, I can do that! I indeed assume that people just don’t “want” to install Linux because they think Windows, or other Microsoft products, is “good enough” for them but maybe they just don’t know how or imagine they don’t have the ability to do so. That’s a great suggestion I’ll try to address it soon, thanks!

Yes, I’m one of them, haha! It would be great to have Linux or a privacy OS…though I haven’t found a privacy OS I think will be any good.
