Not a single friend or family member gives two shits about privacy. When I tell them about what companies know about them and what they do with that information, it’s kind of like a vegan telling a meat eater where their meat comes from. Like “wow that sounds bad but I’m not willing to make any changes”. The only difference is that instead of animals being a product, this time they are the product.

I always preferred Halo Underground.

A service like paperlessNG pointed at an encrypted drive could work well.

I’d like to look into that further for PiHole which is what I use. I get a lot of complaints from the mrs so she usually just defaults to turning off Wi-Fi on her phone.

Firefox privacy, security and anti-tracking: a comprehensive user.js template for configuration and hardening. I found the extensions section particularly useful: https://github.com/arkenfox/user.js/wiki/4.1-Extensions

Yeah, I have a different SSID/pw too (several SSIDs with corresponding VLANs) but if OP is trying to do this covertly, this would help.

You could buy a cheap router, put your modem in bridge mode, and set the Wi-Fi SSID and password combo to be the same as your modem’s and none would be the wiser. Then you’d have control over your network. That said, if you have the same modem that I do (from shaw) a cheap router will not have the same performance as the one shaw provides. But a used UniFi WAP would outshine the shaw provided modem any day.

Unfortunately in this case privacy isn’t free.

One thing to note about immich is that they use a proprietary file structure so you cannot just throw your existing pictures folder at it and have it non-destructively index them. It’s in their roadmap to change this behavior but for me it’s a deal breaker. I use photoprism and it works great for me.
