Funny thing is, the way this is phrased seems to me the person complaining is part of the issue.

The complete and absolute refusal that something is someone good may lie in the whole of the Trump administration is part of the issue. The extreme polarisation of dems vs reps is part of the issue, and the exact reason some voted trump, because, well, at least he’s red.

Not understanding that someone may recognize this, and speaking out about anyone who does, leads to more polarisation.

And what happens with enough division ? What is to be gained to spew hatred on your fellow countrymen ?

If you really think your opinion is superior, don’t yell at others, explain and share. Don’t judge hastily.

In this post I don’t see the proton CEO as a MAGA supporter, I see someone who recognizes something good in a context that cannot be changed. (Like it or not, Trump won and will be president legally for the next 4 years).

I mean when it comes to bad takes these days, it’s not the worst take I’ve ever seen. It’s not like they are rolling back every decision they ever made just to appease Trump like every other tech company. I’ll just wait and see what they actually do vs sharing one of their opinions out of many. Go back 5ish years and this post by them wouldn’t have even caused an outrage.

Still not stoked about this either, just to be clear. I’m just trying not to jump to conclusions.

This post makes me respect Proton even more. It’s a well articulated position.

With Zuckerberg, Bezos, and Musk all leading Trump around with a $100 bill on a fishing line, you’d have to be profoundly naive or dishonest to actually take the stance that Republicans will do anything about Big Tech.

What happens when you polish a turd?

Oh, yeah, you get that pandering word vomit of an “articulated” position.

Any American who thinks they have a hero in Washington has been had. As the great George Carlin said, “It’s a big club, but you ain’t in it.”

Imagine losing your shit because a company’s big guy likes something you don’t? If you saw better laws for what you want by P1 instead of P2 would you not like P1 more?

Meanwhile the GOP regularly losing their shit about “woke” corporations. Good try though

Also, not if P1 is a fascist, no, absolutely not.

You don’t have to switch services based on political affiliation. If the only difference is whether or not the company is public about it, there should be no issues with the software itself. It makes it far less exhausting to use a service. Just my two cents.

To be clear, I’m not taking a stance on the Proton issue. I’m simply stating that I trust code more than politics. The services I use are open source, so unless the code is found to be malicious there is no reason to stop using the software.

I prefer my Nazis to be hiding in fear. Not making public pronouncements of support for the Nazi party. I will continue to drop services that endorse a political affiliation that doesn’t regard me as human.
