Debian isn’t the best choice if you’re a gamer. That kernel for instance (6.1) is ancient, you’re missing out on a ton of cool features and improvements which have been made since then. Your graphics stack (Mesa) is also likely to be outdated.

I’d recommend switching back to EndeavourOS, or if you’d like something more stable, try Nobara. Another alternative, if you favor stability, is Bazzite - which is an immutable OS with a built-in rollback feature, so if you find an update broke something you could just select the previous version of the image from GRUB and keep it pinned, until it’s fixed (you’ll still get app updates though via Distrobox, Flatpak etc).

Check ProtonDB

Sounds like OS isn’t the issue

Also, I’ve had this problem on a laptop. The problem is more likely that you’re underutilizing the GPU and so the whole graphics load is put on the CPU. Try cranking up the graphics settings as well.

Not everyone has one, but try connecting to a TV, 1080p monitor (with both screens running), or a higher res display (2k/4k) with the laptop screen off. The added load will utilize the GPU more and the game won’t crash.

My issue was with Rocket League and it would crash like this so I kept turning graphics settings down which made the issue more frequent. I recently got a new desktop with a 2k monitor and, before the actual computer parts arrived, I played games on the laptop through the 2k display with no issues whatsoever.

Laptops are a different breed that will need more utilization of the GPU in some cases since the graphics aren’t handled solely by the GPU

what version of proton are you using?
