- If you have a question, please try searching for previous discussions, maybe it has already been answered

It doesnt collect metadata and doesnt have ads. Every server needs donations to stay alive! But its a social media, so its Google Bots and ChatGPT everywhere
Lemmy actually collects a ton of metadata and data, and makes it really easy for third party ad and AI companies (and everybody) to scrape.
What metadata is that? Sorry never used a browser console before haha
Do you remember all the stuff Reddit said they didn’t want to be freely accessible to AI companies? Basically, that stuff.
They exaggerated the danger, but not the content AFAIK
Everybody? I don’t know how to scrape. Teach me how to “scrape.” What am I missing out on?
In a desktop browser? You can open up the developer tools, go to the network tab, reload a page, right click a network request that looks interesting (like one that gets user posts), copy the fetch request to the clipboard, go to the debugger tab, paste the fetch request there, and jiggle around a couple of variables if you feel like it.
(Or just start your own instance and wait for the data to pour in.)
Obviously I was being hyperbolic (not everyone on Earth can even breathe without assistance) but hopefully you get my point.
