Why Twitter (aka X.com ) block TOR users ?
fedilink

Hi,

I have to admit I’m glad that Elon Musk & Donald Trump exist, to balance this crazy world of censorship ( some times also covered as “moderation” )

In Macronie ( ex France ) where I reside, Freedom of speech is dead.

A funny meme, but sadly real…

So Twitter ( aka X ) bought by Mr. Musk is a relieve. Apparently ( since they clean it ) a space with no, or less censorship Hooray !

And here in our totalitarian regime,

this is BAD, very BAD ! That’s why Europe started public relation campaign ( aka propaganda ) to make peoples quit Twitter

So concretely all the company, body etc… founded by Europe are asked to quite Twitter and to advertise loud about it…

On the other side, I’ve tried many time to join Twitter trough the TOR network !! ( That protect your anonymity ) But those accounts are within 6 hours banned…

So, I don’t understand , why the fuck, Twitter ban people that use TOR !? If they were really wanted the common good…

Note that peoples that live in Europe and create a Twitter ( or actually any social media account ) without TOR or something similar take tremendous risk to do so !

Any way Twitter is a centralized platform and this is not good ! can’t wait to see a real decentralized place, kind like Lemmy, but Lemmy can be bring down too easily ! compare to an .onion

if the freedom of expression is limited to the ideas that we like, it is not freedom of expression. Noam Chomsky.

Depends where you are and what you want to post. You can host your own website with an activitypub instance (like a wordpress with the activitypub plugin, or a mastodon instance, or a smaller activitypub instance) and the only thing that can limit you from there is the law. But again, unfortunately if the government is censoring you, there’s nothing stopping you from getting arrested. I don’t know much about onion hosting, but I believe that’s anonymised so there’ll be less risk of you being identified and censored.

Depends on your definition of free speech.

If that’s “you can post literally anything and there is no moderation”, then likely none.

Cause it would attract pedophiles sharing child sexual abuse material, drug traders and Nazis making lists of targets.
Why should anyone pay upkeep to host that? No advertiser will go near it, and it’s only a matter of time before the cops take it down and arrest people.

If it’s “post anything that isn’t blatantly illegal everywhere”, then try 8kun. But unmoderated platforms do not attract rational discourse:
Warning: Screenshot includes hate speech

There are no true free speech instances, because nobody wants Nazis on their platform except Nazi platforms. And Nazi platforms don’t want you.
