The problem seems to have more to do with lack of proper sex education and social pressure rather than pornography. Why did he have to feel so ashamed that he isolated himself? That’s a real issue here!
I have a good experience with the NVidia shield TV (2017). Jellyfin app work great without tinkering and HEVC deciding is supported by this device, minimizing the need of transcoding.
The experience outside of Jellyfin needs some work though, to get an ad-free experience. Once Projectivy Launcher and Smart Tube installed and configured, I am fully satisfied.
I haven’t played too much with Raspberry, I think HW decoding is still a point of pain.
This may be a simple coincidence. Maybe you had similar YouTube suggestions in the past but you didn’t pay attention because they come at random times. Like if you drive a Honda Civic, you tend to spot all the Honda Civic in the street.
There would be an interesting experiment to make though:
- Take a snapshot of your YouTube recommandations
- Choose a subject that has nothing to do with any of the recommandations, let’s say “travel to the Bahamas”
- Hold a conversation with someone with both your phone’s present, mention several time going to the Bahamas.
- Check YouTube again, si if the topic of Bahamas is appearing.
- Choose another topic not covered by your recommendations, let’s say collecting stamps
- Put your phones away, have a conversation about collecting stamps
- Check YouTube recommandations
It’s going to depend. Are you using the Android version that can shipped with your device, or a custom ROM? are you using F-droid? have you ever reported a bug to an app developer ? I assume a big majority of Android users are consumers and not participants, but at least with Android you have options to participate. Nothing wrong with being a consumer BTW.
However, Android is quite a bit different from what is broadly understood as Linux. Yes, Android uses the Linux kernel, but appart from that it’s not a very open eco-system and Google absolutely controls the AOSP.
Most of the linux world is not for “consumers”, it’s for “participants” also refered to as “the linux community”. Android and SteamOS are consumer oriented indeed, you buy your device that ships with a Linux-based OS. But on the PC side of things, you just get, install and use linux for free with no strings attached. Just by doing so you become a participant of the linux community, and you contribute to shape the future of Linux as an OS by choosing a distro over another, by choosing a DE, by reporting bugs, etc.
Any company that has influence on the development of Linux, can only have it by contributing to the whole project. This is what Valve is doing, as well as Intel, Canonical, Redhat and even Microsoft.
The only way to defend against that is to be extremely mindful of what apps you install. The police will need a backdoor to activate the spybug, this will come in the form of an app that a large amount of people install willingly and are relying on.
In China the police can get immediate and total access to any citizens’ phone my simply scanning an ID (driver license, etc). This is probably a feature built into WeChat or another app that all Chinese people are relying on.
I have a Pixel 7 and my wife has the Pixel 6a, I don’t find them particularly well made. My pixel 7 is already show signs of wear with the power button getting stuck after about 2 years of use, with a case pretty much always on. My former phone, Huawei P20 worked flawlessly and was like new after 5 years of use. In the end I wanted to run GrapheneOS and decided for the Pixel. But at this price, I am quite disappointed with the hardware quality.
