Yeah, that’s a good point. For me it’s mostly family that is not very technical, so I’m not too concerned of them using a fork.

Poor security implementations that would become the weakest link in the security chain

Definitely. Capturing the messages isn’t my concern though as much as interacting with non authentic clients

Yes of course. Signal can archive messages and they can be restored, you can screenshot messages and you can have them backed up as part of a policy like icloud backups.

My question is more about how do you know you’re interacting with an authentic signal client, and not a bastardized one.

TM Signal
The scariest part of this recent news is that TM Signal seem(ed) to be interoperable. People using TM Signal could interact with actual Signal users. How are you to know whether or not your groups have people using bastardized versions of Signal? Are things like Session interoperable with Signal?

This looks nice; I’ll take a look!

Oh I’ve heard of this one; They look great! I think the only thing they don’t have is a mobile app :(

Suggestions for Email/ Calendar
I am looking for a privacy respecting (and ideally E2EE supporting) email/ calendar/ contacts provider. I had previously used ProtonMail up until a few months ago when the CEO started getting political (bummer). I've since been using TutaMail, and while it's a bit rough on the UI/UX, I do appreciate that the team behind it seems very privacy focused. One problem here though, is that family that is also using this is ending up in spam folders when emailing others (I guess Tuta is more likely to be flagged as spam). Does anyone have any suggestions for alternate providers?

Recommendations for VoIP provider
I am looking for a simple to use VoIP provider that I mainly plan to use for 2FA (when a cell number is required). I know there are checks that sometimes prevent VoIP from being used but I figure it's worth a shot. MySudo looks nice but they require Google play services to be installed, VoIP.ms looks nice too but I've had a hard time getting a hold of anyone there to help with activating my account. Anyone have any recommendations?

Graphene OS Profiles
I've used Graphene OS for years, but only recently started taking advantage of the profiles feature. Currently the Owner profile that you log into on first boot is my main profile, and I have a secondary decoy profile that I can switch to. Is this the best way to do this, or should it be the other way around so that on first boot you go into the decoy, which also allows you to end the session of the main profile?

Ah, so 5 eyes. Tuta is German so 14 eyes. Not a lot of options out there

Do they? I haven’t experienced either of these. Where would I find the ads? Curious if my pihole is hiding them

Exactly this. I left after the previous comments but still felt they had integrity. That’s also starting to change

I switched after the CEO came out supporting Trumps nomination and the republicans being the party of the small guy

That’s true. Was going to setup a NAT rule to test it out but then realized that there’s no way I can redirect outbound traffic on 443 to a Pi Hole on 53, lol.

Technically if you have a NAT redirect rule that routes all outbound traffic on a specific port, you could redirect to port 53 on the pihole and it would be visible because the DoT/ DoH terminates at the Pi which his brother could control? VPN is still a safe bet.

They’re not handing over keys though. They’re just not offering ADP in that region anymore(?) I doubt they would be allowed to hand out keys (which they do not hold) to another government that would compromise American businesses, agencies, etc. The US was already noticing the dangers in this demand and I’m hoping that this was an attempt at a compromise. I guess we’ll never know though, since this included a gag order as well

Ikr? I used Reddit for well over a decade, and left without an issue after the APIpocolypse. Did the same with Proton a couple weeks ago. I have no loyalties in tech.

Meshtastic can be encrypted and is LoRa based. Can easily hit nodes dozens of miles away with a good line of sight. It also relays messages across nodes to reach even further distances.

I had daily drove it for years, but recently started testing the water with iOS. Still have GOS on my secondary devices though.

All of mine are working. For some you might need to enable to compatibility mode, which disabled some of the added exploit protections provided by GOS.

The goal would be to have a collection of many locations

This looks very interesting; Will look into it! Thank you.

Alternative to Google Maps for sharing
Some friends of mine have a Google map going where they pin locations of interest (restaurants, etc). I was wondering if anyone knew of a non-Google project that might allow for something similar? The goal would be to have a shareable map that a group of invited/ allowed users could add locations and possibly notes to.

Not sure if it helps, but Capital One has digital cards you can create on the fly.

Just bought 3 since they stack and I’m worried they won’t be offered in the future XD

I actually emailed their support asking about the lifetime licensing, and they did mention they calculate/ limit the lifetime licenses to be sustainable. I hope they are able to succeed and be around for a while with their price modeling. Maybe lifetime won’t be for sale for much longer

Oh interesting, was there a Q&A or something or just speculation?

I’ve noticed this too. I have to open the app for sync to start happening. I raised this concern to their customer support and they quickly responded saying they’ll pass it to the dev team. Fingers crossed they add a fix soon.

Filen cloud
What are your thoughts on filen? I don't seem to be able to find a community for them here, but it seems like a pretty solid up and coming company for secure cloud storage options.
