People like me? I would never do such a thing. That doesn’t mean I’m going to blame people who did, for the actions of avaricious capitalists.

It’s really easy to not be a scumbag.

What a bunch of libertarian bullshit. Every layman can’t be expected to be an expert on literally everything so as to make sure they don’t buy or consume a product that will hurt or damage them in some way, or do business with a corporation that will screw them over. This is literally the reason government exists.

Dwarf Fortress is quite the rabbit hole. It’s so much more than just a game. The complexity of the simulation has actually made me wonder about simulation theory IRL.

It’s mind blowing.

Ah, bummer… Can’t you just log in using X11 instead of Wayland for the session when you want to play? Assuming it’s a Wayland issue…

For some reason I’ve been having issues too, but I started adding this to my launch options in the game properties in Steam and it seems to work for several games. Dunno if this is the same issue as you though, but maybe worth a shot:

PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%

Also use Wayland.

Again, only one data point but you basically just described me exactly

I can only speak for myself, but me getting a Steam Deck was step one in the process where eventually, about a year or so ago, I switched to Linux on my laptop, and I don’t have a single regret.

I will never use Windows again when it’s my choice.

Any reason to use it over Timeshift? Or same basic concept?

Thing is, I don’t even feel like I do write like a robot per-se… Maybe it’s more like I write like the average of every person who has ever written anything ever lol.

Just switched to Mullvad and haven’t tried torrenting with it yet… Doesn’t work? Or just slow?

As others have said, Mullvad is pretty close to (if not at) 100% guarantee… No personal info whatsoever is required to be given when you sign up (including email address or payment information; you can use Monero if you want), so there isn’t really anything that they could give to authorities even if they wanted.

Even if they did keep logs (which im 99.9% sure they don’t), all that would show is an IP address, and from what I understand based on past precedent, that is not enough to identify a person on its own. But IANAL.

Yeah, that’s what I was going to say. Thank god that shit didn’t exist when I was in college, or every paper I ever wrote would have been flagged. I guess I write like a robot.

Just recently signed up for Mullvad… No CC numbers or email addresses, you just get a string of numbers and that’s all you need to connect with it anywhere. And you can pay with Monero.

It’s like the paranoid person’s dream.

To be fair, free-mp3-download.net is not a URL I would voluntarily go to. I mean seriously…

Sounds like an easy lawsuit

if you can’t explain why no one owns all the code.

Is this the first time you’re hearing about open source software?

I didn’t even realize you could pay for it, pretty sure I had a pirated copy.

I also used it for talking to friends from church, but I guess I had an older brother who taught me the ways of “warez” lol

Damn, those are some words I haven’t seen in a very long time, wow… Trillian.

“I can finally make the vague emo song lyrics in my AIM profile look even cooler.

Yeah, with that, the enhanced tracking protection, and always-on VPN, I have to solve captchas almost constantly lol… Worth it.

You may have turned on a setting in Firefox that is meant to obscure your browser fingerprint. For me, it seems to force more captchas for me.

I kept the feature on though, because when I signed into Google and got the notification of a new sign-in on my phone, it thought my OS was Windows NT (it’s Linux) so it seems to at least kind of work.

I forget what the setting was off the top of my head (in about.config I think), but could look into it if anyone is curious.

Edit: went and found info on it. It is not just “Enhanced Tracking Protection.” It is specifically about blocking your browser fingerprint: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-protection-against-fingerprinting
