Unless you turn your monitor off, then it’s just making sounds.

Try getting the sddm (for KDE) instead and run it thru the display-manager service.

The USE flags (feature compilation option) can be a bit tricky to manage, but they’ve tidied up the defaults quite a bit.

The one thing that might still be hard to get right is having all the media codec you need. I wish they’d include it in the default so I didn’t have to fine tune it myself, but well, that’s just part of the fun, and I already got my battle-tested set, so I got nothing to complain.

They are, but for AMD, it won’t matter much as the driver has matured by kernel 6.1

Gentoo lets you trim the fat even more by adjusting your packages at build-time. It has great KDE support. It comes with LTS kernel, but lets you opt for newer ones.

On the other side: point-release distro, LTS kernel, also very good KDE support, practically unbreakable?

Debian to the rescue.

This one won’t lead to Arch.

You’re saying it like anyone’s using it.

Come on, there are a lot of people excited about this. Besides, it’s not like out community is big enough to get picky…

I mean… It has (at least most of) everything I need. Definitely far from ideal.

This makes sense. Where can I read more about this?

What proprietary stuff are you talking about? I’m aware that the stuff we’d be running on Proton-GE would be closed-source, but same goes with Proton & Wine.

Hell yeah! That containerization sounds nice!

I’ve been using Bottles for that purpose. It works okay, but not exactly lightweight (in fact far from it).

I do have a question about GloriusEggroll’s work. I know it’s supposed to iron out corner case bugs for a lot of games, but what is it exactly, a bunch of patches? Why is it not mainlined?

Oh yeah, VSCodium on Flatpak is always subpar for some reason. Thankfully this doesn’t apply to every Flatpak app.

I am on a Thinkpad W530 with K2000M GPU. This one is well supported by the nouveau driver, more of an exception than the rule. Yes, I did researched the driver support before buying. The GPU switching works. One con: it’s heavy as fuck.
