I’ve been on Proton for years and I’ve had a Visionary account for years. Proton’s price doesn’t really go up, but the quality and features does immensely. They give me extra storage every year. I get more VPNs, more password managers, more and more and more. IMO they have a track that shows they care about privacy and want to make things better.

You may be offered a free premium Telegram subscription – but please don’t accept
Telegram is giving away FREE Premium subscriptions! All they need from you is to use your cell phone as a relay to text out their OTP codes! And the recipient of the OTP sees your phone number! What could POSSIBLY go wrong with this deal? PLEASE don't use Telegram! I personally recommend Matrix as it's totally FOSS, you can self host, there are tons of front end clients to choose from. Or even use Signal. I have my own issues with Signal, the fact they don't allow third party clients, you can't self-host, they have a proprietary shim in their stack that only they know what it does, they were pushing crypto, etc, but at least Signal is better than this garbage.

VLC - App stores were a mistake
VideoLAN @videolan App Stores were a mistake. Currently, we cannot update VLC on Windows Store, and we cannot update VLC on Android Play Store, without reducing security or dropping a lot of users... For now, iOS App Store still allows us to ship for iOS9, but until when?

Because the average person doesn’t have a clue and they never think about this kind of thing. I’ve been called a conspiracy theorist by my own father as well as othesr for mentioning Snowden revalatins and using a VPN and all the privacy steps I take on the web.

A great video about the Manifest v3 and how Google is trying to make you view ads.

libreddit is the Reddit front end. Reddit did something, it seems they blocked IP addresses. There are ways around it and folks do have some instances, but there’s sitll a lot out there that don’t work. You can rung your own libreddit and put it through Cloudflare’s bridge thing and then point libredirect to your own libreddit for stability.

I personally LOVE Heroic Games Launcher. I have GOG, Epic and Amazon all in there, though I VERY rarely actually play any games from them. But haven't had an issue with the games installed from it yet.

Here's an up to date look at the current state of the most played games on Steam, and how many of they run on Steam Deck and Linux as a whole. In case you missed it: the Steam Deck recently crossed over 13,000 games rated at least Playable. Checking via the Steam Deck Verified rating (either Verified or Playable), and then the ProtonDB rating across Platinum - Gold - Silver - Bronze or Broken / Linux Native Support for desktop Linux. While the top 100 changes fairly often, it's an interesting way to look at overall compatibility. From top to bottom based on peak player count, here's how things stack up with this snapshot of Steam's most played taken on January 5th - 2024, 18:45 UTC. Overall we're seeing 75/100 at least rated Playable on Steam Deck and 78/100 work on desktop Linux with a Gold rating on ProtonDB or higher (or the game has official Native Linux support). Of those, 26 advertise they have Native Linux support. Things are looking pretty good overall for the popular games! I purposefully kept in a few odd ones like Wallpaper Engine, and Rocket League even though you can no longer get it on Steam, since this is just taking the Top 100 as it is at the time for Steam overall. At least 12 of the Unsupported games are due to anti-cheat issues, although some like SMITE do need a re-check from Valve. Anti-Cheat continues to be a major source of annoyance for Steam Deck / Linux gamers overall. Are there any ratings for the games listed above you feel Valve need to change? If so, why? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments on the current state of things.
