Those proxies aren’t encrypted in any way, even if it’s one with user/pass authentication access. They’ll obfuscate your IP from other users, such as torrenters, but there’s a risk your ISP will still see unencrypted headers between you and the proxy.

You appear to have conflated some of what I said, but I honestly don’t care enough to figure out where. Use whatever you want, it doesn’t matter to me, but casting Mullvad browser as pointless when it just doesn’t fit your particular needs or preferences is just ignorant.

You asked what we’re using, that’s what I’m using.

You can install Mullvad directly from its repo, not having account syncing ability or being able to turn certain things on or off is part of the security features. It’s the same for the Firefox Focus mobile browser. Mullvad is a midpoint between Librewolf and Tor Browser, incorporating letterboxing for anti-fingerprinting. If you want personal information saved for later sessions or synced, you need to use something else, like Librewolf or regular FF.

Yes, I use that on my Android tablet.

I can still use PocketTube to generate a group playlist, then tell it to open that list in Revanced and it works even better with the included SponsorBlock etc.

So I have a option on both platforms that starts with PocketTube as a playlist launcher, with the iOS side restricted to only adblocking. Which is fine for me, because I rarely watch vids on my phone.

And the only place I’m logged in anywhere is in PocketTube.

edit: although I got Revanced from revanced.app… not sure if there’s a difference

hmmm… looks like I did the DIY method with revanced.app using an older YT version, and revanced.net is an updated oob package. Maybe I’ll update.

On iOS, I’ve discovered that I can uninstall the YT app, set Firefox Focus as my default browser, and then use PocketTube linked to my YT account to open a group playlist, and it plays in FF Focus without ads… so far.

Banned on my VPN, too, good to know I shouldn’t be aggravated at my service.

Things like this make the arguments against FF getting funding from search engine companies seem even more shortsighted. That wasn’t a cheap effort at all, but well worth it.

Oh I meant all the features that might needlessly send things to a server like checking spelling as you type, recommending extensions and features as you browse, turning off search suggestions, changing search engine, turning off location requests and most autofills, suggestions from web and sponsors, turning off all data collection and use, enabling https-only mode, etc

Mullvad for when I’m just browsing, and then if I want something in bookmarks synced everywhere, or if it’s a site broken by Mullvad, I’ll copypaste to Firefox with the possible privacy issue features turned off.

In my case I had reset a device and didn’t disable IPv6. Once I fixed that the bottom two tests still say I’m “leaking”, but all three show only one IP each, for my VPN’s servers (maybe different IPs, but one for each.)

If I were actually leaking, IPs shown would be for a local DNS, or my residence, etc.

While everyone’s at it, you may want to check for leaks with Mullvad VPN’s service, it picked up a DNS leak for me that got past a few other sites:

Do you need to turn an option on or off in Safari? I got a strong protection result, same as for Firefox.

Firefox Focus still has “strong” result.

I get “Partial Protection” on Chrome and two generic named browsers, and a flat-out “No” for Opera Mini

Before anyone asks “why” about anything listed here, I have to test webpages for compatibility across browsers. Having them installed is the only way to do that.

I’m going to get fired at for saying this, but websites like that are why I keep Brave around as a last resort news backup. Its reader mode didn’t get past FT, but easily did so for the Economist.

I’m gonna steal your walmart wifi

My current process which seems to work pretty well on an Android tablet without a bunch of export/importing:

• be logged into YouTube on Firefox browser to subscribe/unsubscribe
• have Firefox set as the default browser
• use the PocketTube app, signed into my YouTube account, to assign those subscriptions to group lists
• with a group selected, hit the play list button
• at the prompt, direct PocketTube to open the playlist in Firefox (just once or always)
• avoid ads during playback with uBlock Origin
• when done, close the Firefox tab

The only issues I experience with this is that it doesn’t automatically skip upcoming videos on autoplay (just have to tap the next list item), and occasionally I have to set a different resolution than what was auto selected.

edit: and nothing seems to break when Google makes changes anywhere
