I saw today the infamous pop-up of YouTube again that they will block the video player after 2 more videos if I keep using uBlock Origin. ** Google.
Privacy has become a very important issue in modern society, with companies and governments constantly abusing their power, more and more people are waking up to the importance of digital privacy.

much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)
Does anyone here use NewPipe on Android? I also have Grayjay but haven’t really felt the need to get into it just yet. Just wondering if NewPipe is a bad choice for a YT client alternative?
I have tried it. Works really well but I prefer LibreTube’s UI

I’m just scared of them deleting my account for real, while not even seeing the popup yet, because I block it.
@Send_me_nude_girls I’m now following this guide: https://docs.invidious.io/export-youtube-subscriptions/ and import it in FreeTube. Let’s see how this goes.

@euphoric_cat
@Send_me_nude_girls True, it does still seem to work. All threats have been for nothing.
I got that too like two weeks ago. Updated the “quick fixes” filter list and haven’t seen it since.
Remove your custom rules for youtube. Make sure you don’t have other adblockers such as the one build into the youtube enhancer add-on and if you’re using Firefox, as you should, disable the enhanced tracking protection for youtube (in the address bar) Other than that just make sure you keep uBlock Origin up to date since they update the adblocking detection script atleast twice a day. Just click the clock icon in the “quick fixes” section and click update. No need to update all your filters every time.
Just use Invidious.
@kby I can’t agree more… I now also try FreeTube. But sure we should also all move to PeerTube.
@melroy This is stupid YouTube… Anyway, if you’re on the legs, try Grayjay for Android. 😉👍
@vintprox You’re 100% right. We need to move away from it. Eventually maybe PeerTube? Sure, Grayjay is a good combination of all! But I hope content creators also move away from youtube.
@vintprox Ps. I’m also testing FreeTube using my exported list of subscriptions (following https://docs.invidious.io/export-youtube-subscriptions/), since I’m more looking for a good solution on my desktop PC.
I use freetube on desktop ( The libredirect extension make it an ease ), and since i watch subscribed channels in phone, i use revanced. So that i don’t cause viewership loss to them ( IDK it will affect them directly or not, just for my pleasure. )
Update your list in settings on unlock. I updated mine today since I got the msg when I open YouTube.
Yep.
I hit the clear cache. Then update. And boom, message was gone.
On iOS, I’ve discovered that I can uninstall the YT app, set Firefox Focus as my default browser, and then use PocketTube linked to my YT account to open a group playlist, and it plays in FF Focus without ads… so far.
There’s also yattee for iOS, which works with invidious and Piped too https://github.com/yattee/yattee
@mateomaui This was in Firefox on my desktop machine. I don’t have iOS but under Android I installed ReVananced works great! https://revanced.net/youtube-revanced (it also needs microG: https://revanced.net/microg)
revanced.app is the real site
Yes, I use that on my Android tablet.
I can still use PocketTube to generate a group playlist, then tell it to open that list in Revanced and it works even better with the included SponsorBlock etc.
So I have a option on both platforms that starts with PocketTube as a playlist launcher, with the iOS side restricted to only adblocking. Which is fine for me, because I rarely watch vids on my phone.
And the only place I’m logged in anywhere is in PocketTube.
edit: although I got Revanced from revanced.app… not sure if there’s a difference
hmmm… looks like I did the DIY method with revanced.app using an older YT version, and revanced.net is an updated oob package. Maybe I’ll update.
edit2: correction: I’m logged into my account on a different web browser entirely, in case I want to subscribe to a channel or whatever
No don’t! revanced.app is the only official site
@Automated_Footprint
@mateomaui so what did I just installed? I went for the “Revanced Youtube Extended” I guess.
Neither Revanced nor Revanced extended will give you premade Youtube APKs. You have to use one of their methods (manager app or from pc) and build it yourself. That’s how they get away from takedowns.
@Automated_Footprint uh its a perbuild apk…? I use it myself. https://github.com/revancedapps/revanced.net/releases/download/2023-46/revanced.net_revanced_youtube_v18.38.44.apk
Again you also need microg: https://github.com/revancedapps/revanced.net/releases/download/2023-36/revanced.net_revanced_microg_v0.2.28.233217.apk. And no, the manager is not required.
@mateomaui
Not the correct GitHub page. These people say that they offer clean builds but we never know
https://github.com/ReVanced
Thank you! Was still debating it, do you know what’s up with that other site?
Don’t know maybe they modify the app with malware. Better avoid
Is this a global thing? I never saw that popup and was thinking maybe they are directing this only at the US and Europe. I am in north Africa and YouTube premium isn’t even available (not that I’d pay for that overpriced bullshit).
I’m in Europe and haven’t seen it yet either, so I guess it’s just random and we’ve been lucky.
@PixTupy
@nobloat I’m from the Netherlands. I see it here.
@nobloat then it’s most likely only a US & EU thing. Good to know, I can fake my origin.
Get the Vinegar plugin
After you run out, hit the embed button, then watch the video as normal.
