Yeah, they’re very nice, was pleasently surprised that they come with a Bazzite install.

I think the 98% of people not in nerdy privacy communities like ours would be shocked about this so it is something to write hone about.

PoE2 came out in early access on Friday and with a bit of tinkering (had to switch to Proton 7, for others it runs with DX12 not Vulkan) I can play on Linux woth no problems. What a time to be alive! 🤭

Well, they’re going on my big list of “throw money at orgs to make this hellhole a bit less shite” I’ll check in January when I know my earnings for 2024:

It’s only second prize so can’t be scam

Jitsi, Nextcloud Talk and Signal are all very good options (if you don’t need screenshare with desktop sound (e.g. a watching a tutorial video with sound), I haven’t found a FOSS solution that can do that - though tbh it’s been a while since I tried it with something other than Signal)

I’m running two servers in two different locations on two i5 NUCs with USB-attached HDDs (blasphemy, I know) for storage and lots of Docker services. Its not super fast (e.g. Jellyfin) but good enough for me.

Yeah, but is that an option realistically, if the parents want Netflix and Iplayer or whatever?

I think just with electric cars all the options are a complete privacy nightmare …

Aaahh, I want out of this dystopian timeline, I did not sign up for this!

Why do I think of Marilyn Manson when looking at the right panel … 🫠

Thank you all for these comments, they have made another horrible piece of news a bit less horrible (by knowing people are apaled by this shit).

I bought a key yesterday, I’ll see how long 5€ will last me and then decide if I’ll look elsewhere.

The credit card company and everybody buying that data from them still does though, probably, which for me is the bigger concern.

Cycling is amazing if there are good roads that aren’t much traveled around your area and check your local arthouse cinema, they even still might have paper tickets 😸

Yeah, that’ll be hard. I’m trying to use Peertube but network effect is big on YT (not sure if that’s the right expression here, noone is using Peertube, everyone is on YT).

I was wondering about that (but thought that that what you said would probably be true), this would have been very interesting if it just restored nudes …

Yeah, the two tails (one going through the seat the other lying on the floor 🫠) are a giveaway but I also like how the flowers she is holding (not super gracefully) are already kind of in a glass vase …

Those two apparently don’t allow law enforcement access to their databses (yet?) even though I seem to remember they do. But others do:

I’ve heard that the one Home Assistant is making is also pretty good

Overkill for this but just wanted to mention

stirlingtools.com/ (self-hosted PDF magic)

Yeah, you can export multiple-page PDFs and https://floss.social/@doctormo is working on revamping how it’s handling colour so we will eventually get propper CMYK support and other cool stuff

Right! I always forget it’s made woth @Godot! So cool!

Yeah, the icons are really cool, I like the chunky, 3d-look.

Oh, very cool list (though Nitter - and probably another Twitter clients?(1) - are probably dead?

(1) Maybe not: https://github.com/j-fbriere/squawker/issues/187

Ok, premium features, In think that’s a good business model for FOSS and closed source companies.

Ghostery seems to be a GmbH(1) which is a German for-profit company. Does anyone know how they’re making money?

One of my admin friends said it’s not really made with desktop users in mind but more for people who need to set up (lots of) computers / servers quite often (= admins). If you’re not planning on distro hopping or reinstalling your system all the time it doesn’t really do anything for you that any other distro plus a good backup strategy already does. Plus you can use the Nix package manager without installing NixOS on the distro you’re on right now, if you wanna check it out.

How do people here feel about this evaluation?

Iceraven is a very nice replacement for Fennec which was always slow af for me.

For Android there’s the very originally named Privacy Browser (on F-Droid) and I recently found Iceraven (installed via Optanium).
