Do you trust Proton?
I've been using Proton Mail and VPN for a while now, and I'm just wondering how everyone else feels about them. I have this kind of inherent alight distrust of them just because they seem like they offer a lot for free and kind of have a Big Tech vibe about them, but there's nothing for me to really substantiate that distrust with, its mostly just a feeling. That being said, I do use their services as mentioned and they work pretty well, even on the free teir. So aside from that one instance where they gave that guy's info to the feds, is there any reason not to trust them with my data?

As far as sandboxing goes, there’s always Island, Shelter, and Insular, which all leverage the work profile function in android to give you a privacy sandbox of sorts. Problem is, your phone still uses Google Play Services at the system level, so any tracking data being sent through it still gets where it’s meant to go. That being said, leveraging the work profile gives you an extra VPN slot, which can be used with either an always-on VPN, or that slot can be filled by a firewall, something like RethinkDNS or Netguard. Invizible Pro is a good option too, it can route all traffic through TOR, has DNSCrypt built in, and has a firewall (though I’ve never had success with using it). One thing to consider is that Android has been caught sending tracking data around the VPN tunnel if I’m not mistaken.

As far as location spoofing, faking logs, etc., I’m pretty sure you’d have to be rooted to do that kind of stuff with any real efficacy.

The real answer is root + microG + AFWall + any other privacy controls you can get your hands on (I’m a huge fan of XPrivacyLua, personally) and THEN consider something like Shelter

The realer answer is don’t use TikTok

And especially not fucking Windscribe.

Funny to come across this mere weeks after I discover Windscribe. Can you explain what you don’t like about it? Seemed fine from all the research I did, no worse than any other VPN at least

Even so, that’s a sick misuse of people’s trust, and even if you managed to pull it off, you probably wouldn’t accomplish anything of note

This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. You’re basing your understanding of an entire group of people off a stereotype that circulates on social media. If you gathered up everybody you just described, you’d have an army barely capable of storming a McDonald’s. Touch grass

Is using Google Voice with MicroG any less private than using the regular phone service provided by
The reason I'm asking is because I have a phone that I would like to install Lineage OS on, but when I've tried in the past, I lose VoLTE capabilities on the phone. So I was considering using Google Voice with MicroG. I know when it comes to regular phone calls and SMS text messages, your ISP archives all your data indefinitely, so I'm wondering, from a personal privacy standpoint, is using Google Voice any less private. Do they collect any more info than my ISP does? Also, if I plan to install MicroG, would there actually be less data collection than normal since MicroG scrubs all info except the account name before reaching out to Google's servers. I figure Google Voice might still have access to metadata related to my phone calls, or maybe even records of calls, but so does my ISP, so is Google Voice really any worse? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!
