I am not attacking the Gnome team. I think it is important to acknowledge that sometimes popup ads are understandable. It’s a matter of perspective sometimes and sometimes (looking at you Microsoft) the company is just being abusive assholes.

Well, technically it is the same, it’s just just done with decorum and restraint. I have no problem with giving to Gnome since I use and appreciate their software. I guess it is just the optics with all the MS hate going around.

Just got a popup ad in Linux
Gnome needs your support with a donate button. How is this any different then the shit that Microsoft is pulling? This was on Fedora 43, BTW.

It’s a 9 year old system that I upgraded the video card on a few years ago. But it still handles newer games like Bauldars Gate ok. Not sure if I should expect a performance decrease going to Linux or not.

Based on replies I think I will try mint and then bazzit. I have read a lot of recommendations for mint and wanted to try it anyway. Since it will be a fresh install I can experiment. SteamOS does not get recommended much for some reason.

Good distro for mostly gaming system?
I want to replace Win10 on the desktop system I mostly use for gaming. It is an older system with an Nvidia GeForce 1050ti gpu in it, which from what I found, should not be a problem. I was thinking about going with Ubuntu since it is well supported. I was interested if anyone has any opinions about this. I am also going to try and dual boot it with the Win10 for now. I purchased a new SSD drive just for Linux.

Yes, I want something I can easily move. I have a RaspberryPi that I use for retro gaming, but having to move the monitor and kb/mouse is a pain. I want something I can put on the kitchen table while I eat (munch, munch).

Hi, I am in the US, Maryland specifically. I don’t care so much about fingerprint sensors, but audio is a must for web surfing. Thanks for the info.

Looking for any resources about installing Linux one used laptop
I was looking into buying a used or refurbished laptop and installing a Linux distro on it. Mostly want to use it for surfing the web, but I am sure it will have a lot of other uses. What are some good sites to buy a laptop? What should I consider as far as the type of hardware goes (Gpu, WiFi, etc)? What would be good distros to consider? I have been working with Linux for a long time, so I would not consider myself a beginner. Thanks for any advice.

He may be right in this case, but he was never a hero.
