You chose London from the British one? How about Loughborough? Worcestershire? Every -ough word?

Dicio is a client side Android assistant that can do some things and respond to voice commands. In my experience it drains the battery and isn’t as good as commercial alternatives though.

Oh, I didn’t see that one. Yes, indeed, if that works better, go for it!

Mythic beasts 5GB plan is only about £4 a month.

Use a web hosting and domain provider (eg mythic beasts), and get a email@yourdomain.tld email address. Or self host the server, if you have the ability, then you just need to buy the domain.

I don’t know how, but the Android app LibreTube with instance passthrough enabled still works.

When they said Android I assumed they meant degoogled or a custom ROM, but it’s good to point that out I suppose.

You should get a Fairphone and use a degoogled custom ROM. If you really want to get away from Google at the expense of some functionality, you can try a Linux ROM, but I’d recommend one based on Android such as Lineage OS. The benefits are mostly freedom adjacent. You have the freedom to run any app you want, whether it’s from the app store or not. You have the freedom to use any browser engine you like, and download extensions to Firefox. You have the freedom to root your device and make simple full backups of your device to any local storage that you own by accessing the root storage folder. You have the freedom to use apps like Rethink DNS to block ads device-wide, and there are generally a lot more FOSS apps written for Android than iOS as you don’t have to jump through all the hoops of the app store to make your apps available for others.

Why isn’t there ad blockers for podcast apps, like LibreTube does for YouTube?

It’s not owned by Google, a megacorporation

It would hurt, not the fact that I was wrong, but the fact that they wanted me to use Google rather than something like DuckDuckGo.

The cake would make it better though.

Tbh it also fooled me initially, KDE Plasma does look very similar to win10. I had to read the community and look at the Plasma icon rather than Windows icon to see.

Its just a machine though, you can flash it with any distro you like.

Yeah, the fact that out payment system is so centralised is definitely a bad thing. But GNU Taler, from what I understand, is just trying to work within that system. It didn’t create the system, and it doesn’t have the power to replace it.

To me they just say ‘I have stuff to hide from you, not from Google, Facebook, or the government.’

I agree with the first part of your comment, I don’t understand the second. Some sort of pedophilophobic rant?

I don’t know about Signal, but I’ve seen two non tech savvy people using Firefox in the wild.

Yeah, it doesn’t support Nationwide in the UK either, so no go for me too. Maybe there should be a standard, open protocol for connecting to bank cards to pay, so each company doesn’t have to separately approach every bank?

What’s broken about VLC? Presumably you’ve tried deleting app data and reinstalling.

Is that in an Android app? I also hate how there’s no refuse all button, and it can take 15 minutes to opt out from all manually. I just use Rethink DNS to block ads and trackers and hope that that’s enough.

I wouldn’t just give to any random stranger without them even requesting it, because why would I? But if I met someone, I probably would have given them my phone number anyway. What’s insecure about that? I can always block them.

You can apply a chrome or Safari theme to Firefox, if its the looks you don’t like.

But the app is closed source, so you can’t know that Facebook isn’t intercepting it at either end.

Let me guess, the group chat is WhatsApp or iMessage, so Facebook or Apple gets to see them too.

I’ll just use Jan locally on my machine and Microsoft Copilot for images.

Lol. I don’t care whether a Nazi said the quote, but they make good arguments besides for that

Oh, it’s not, they just think it is. I have personal experience of this.

Either because they’ve never heard of it, they think it’s difficult to set up, or they think it’s less polished or reliable.
