My IT teacher from high school put a major emphasis on online privacy.

He thinks the internet is a major threat to individual freedom and while it brings benefits, the negative effects are too big for him.

While I don’t agree with the last statement, I do think privacy is very much under attack nowadays and while I am not very concerned what other people and corporations know about me, I still care about privacy simply because I have the right to do so and because if I don’t pay attention, a dozen different trackers will know what I have done without me granting permission.

Corporations basically take advantage of people and give nothing in return and that is bad imo.

> The lawsuit argues that Google has effectively ‘bought’ the UK mobile phone search engine market. Google forced mobile phone handset manufacturers to pre-install the Google Search and Google Chrome browser apps on devices that use Google’s Android operating system in order to obtain a licence to use Google Play. > Google also unlawfully paid billions to Apple to ensure that it was the default search engine on iPhones and other devices that used Apple’s iOS operating system. In 2019, Google paid £1.2 billion to Apple in the UK to be the default search engine on the Safari browser. > It is claimed that Google has used its market dominance to effectively charge advertisers over the odds. Costs were then passed on to such an extent that all consumers ended up paying higher prices for goods and services sold by brands that have advertised on the platform.

then all other players must be cutting a lot of corners

I mean, I’m pretty sure other phone companies use child labor to harvest the raw materials necessary to produce their devices, so yeah, they are screwing over tons of people.

The default Fairphone OS has Google and a bunch of other trackers.

For a good privacy friendly Fairphone, you should get the Murena Fairphone (they preinstalled DeGoogled /e/OS)

Any recommendations for a privacy friendly smart watch?
I currently take my phone with me while running, but it's very annoying to take imo. Like the title says, is there a privacy friendly smart watch that could track my sport activities? Bonus if it can also sync the data to my private server / NAS :D

Can Wine / Proton / any translation layer run games from external drives?
I'm currently using Windows 10, but I'd like to switch to linux. I know it's crazy and weird, but I currently have 3 SSDs and 2 HDDs. One M.2. SSD is used for the OS (Windows 10 in this case) and the other two SSDs are used for games (I currently have about 1.7TB of games on my PC, spread across two SSDs of 1TB each). Besides that, I have one HDD used for general files and the other one for emulated games. (In my case, mainly my totally legal copies of various games from the high seas and a ton of Wii games for the dolphin emulator). If I were to switch to Linux, would it be possible to keep storing and running the games from other drives that aren't the C drive? And would it be possible to keep my emulation games (mainly the Wii games) on my separate HDD? Besides that, is it possible to run ~~cracked~~ totally legally acquired games but just from a `.exe` file?

Unifying game launcher as an alternative to Playnite including controller support?
Hi, I'm interested in switching from Windows 10 to Linux, but I was wondering if there is an alternative to Playnite. I would like to have a game launcher that has the following features: - Support for Steam, Epic Games, Ubisoft Connect, GOG - Support for xbox / ps4 controller - Support for emulators (such as Dolphin, RPCS3, etc.) - Tracking playtime Any suggestions? The only one I've checked out is Lutris, which does not have controller support :(

You can just use the website (install it as a PWA) and then just connect your device with Tor VPN
