The backend isn’t open source. Iirc, its just the clients.



Thats a shame, it was one of the few disk imagers that “just worked”


Its definetely more polished for users, but it leaks metadata. XMPP is nicer to work with, as a developer.


Not signal specifiaclly, but they said they would shutter operations in the uk if the online “safety” bill passed. @neil@mastodon.neilzone.co.uk has posted a lot about it.



iirc, they are a bit more geared to selling you stuff, and the screens are sometimes a bit dodgy.


I have a Kobo sage and its pretty good. Just avoid the color ones.


The vpn, sure, but if you host it on a vps (and don’t make it public) then all of the requests are coming from the vps’s ip. This is private, but not anonymous.





Does that not defeat the point, because then they can see that the searches are coming from your location/internet?




In the EU almost every phone has an unlockable bootloader, there just isn’t any roms or custom recoveries for a lot of them.
