Maybe spend some of it on a good app rather than marketing and exclusive deals, well or fire your workers and hope that accident of a game store will fix itself I guess!
Wine simulates a Windows environment to some degree, Steam is the only platform that fixed the reporting issue and that wasn’t always the case ether because the system tells the game it’s Windows.
Well, the game was stuck on 1.8 longer than any other version especially if you also consider all the servers that refused to switch for years because Mojang didn’t do a especially good job with the new combat system!
I think Minecraft launchers have their own setting for Java versions but I have no clue which one they select and I am almost certain Java 8 (which as far as I remember was the version for that Minecraft version) won’t be the Arch Linux default.
If I had to guess I would blaim that on Java, maybe try to reinstall Java 8 and make sure it’s actually selected in the launcher rather than a newer version!
