These days, with “big data” analysis being possible on such a large scale, it’s possible to gauge the position of the general population, or of subgroup of such with ease. This makes it easy to divide and conquer, to manufacture consent, for whatever those who have access to said analysis desire.

I always tell people, it’s not about your data, it’s about our data.

The amount of people I see on Lemmy saying “Ugh Google is so bad with all their Chrome shenanigans! I install Brave on my own and all my family’s computers!” is honestly heartbreaking 🤦‍♂️

Elon Musk wanted to drive Twitter into the dirt once he was forced to buy it. Criticism, jet tracking, rejection of fascist-adjacent opinions that are “logical” but only if you’re a heartless engineering robot.

His hubris forced him into buying it, but once he had to, he might as well destroy it. How else do you think he got the Saudis in on it for another billion?

I laughed about this theory at first, just memeing it like “ha could you even imagine?” But every single day it seems more and more like he does the worst thing possible to “monetize” and then gripes about it like the only reason his brilliance isn’t working is because big mean liberal woke mind virus society is trying to do cancel culture because they’re just jealous he’s rich.

The Brave browser is billed as an ad-blocking, privacy protecting, champion of the everyday internet user.

We know they’re not, but they openly masquerade as one and so when they do something shady it’s somewhat relevant to put them on blast yet again. Just look at all the people in this thread alone that are like “oh wtf Brave isn’t good for privacy?”

I mean I’m sorry you’re not learning anything new from this content but we should probably be happy others are.

Ghostery is like Brave, they record and sell your browsing habbits. I stopped using them back in 2013.

Seems like we need to have another talk with the less terminally-online people about what is and isn’t actually good int he world of web browsing safety…

Yeah but it’s a great reason not to support them
