Yeah I use Filen with Nextcloud as a backup. It’s not the best but does the job. Better than most of the corporate ones

It’s on aurora store or you can directly download it from their GitHub.

Yeah the Google captcha keeps getting in the way. I use GrayJay as an alternative.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for privacy.com since 2015. There’s no genuine alternative to it.

I’m sideloading YouTubePlus IPA. I have tried most of the open-source options; however, Google captcha keeps causing issues.

Oh, I didn’t know that. Thanks for the suggestion. It’s gonna be on my home server soon! ✅

Can’t trust Mozilla anymore with the data, so you’re better off finding alternatives. You can check out: xBrowserSync

Use any fork of Firefox without the sync option.

I’ve tried out most of the popular browsers:

  • Arc
  • Firefox
  • Librewolf
  • Brave

I keep coming back to Vivaldi. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Built-in Workspaces (Way better than tab groups)
  • Customization (which I absolutely love)

I use Zen browser as backup. Firefox-based browsers always seem to have something broken, so it’s good to have a chromium-based browser.

I really like Brave for privacy reasons, but it lacks some of my most used features like workspace and split-view.

I know Vivaldi looks a bit overwhelming at first, but you can disable almost everything you don’t need.

You can use Ublock Origin Lite.

In my opinion, a VPN is a must-have, especially if you’re self-hosting, especially for a media server.

This is a pretty good privacy-friendly domain provider Njalla

You mean folders as in sections?

  • Games
  • Social
  • Productivity

Something like that?

Most foss launchers I’ve tried are terrible. LawnChair is the only one that stood out the most.

Be careful it’s owned by an Israeli company that also owns ExpressVPN, CyberGhost, and Zenmate - Kape technologies

Yeah, it lacks a lot of features. Feeds don’t work either.

They built their own index, but if the search engine can’t find what you’re looking for, they have an option to show you proxied results from Google or Bing.

I’ve been using Brave Search with Zen browser. Pretty good.

You’re right. I could never convince my mates. Their typical response “I have nothing to hide, they already have my data”

I also have an Android and iPhone. It seems like I’ll have to switch from iCloud to self-hosting.

Looking for the best solution to block ads/trackers on my entire home network.
I want to block ads and trackers on the whole home network. I’ve been using adblockers and trackers for years now; I currently have a Raspberry Pi. I was thinking of setting up Pi-Hole with AdGuard. Any other suggestions are welcome. (I can’t use a custom router, because my ISP doesn’t allow it)

100%. They are so delusional that 48,000+ innocent deaths are meaning nothing, but their argument starts from October 7th. When Palestinians have been facing this for 75 years.

I come to your house, steal your stuff, tell you to fuj off. Obviously, you’re gonna fight back. Seems like minds in the West are so full of hatred towards Muslims, Arabs, and brown people that they’ve lost their humanity.

I’ve used it for a few days, but it lacks several fundamental features. Additionally, it’s quite resource-intensive.

Btw, they also have a desktop app, but it’s currently in beta.

FreeTube is more stable for desktop.

You are right. However most of the mainstream YouTubers promote rubbish password managers, which is why most people I know don’t know about bitwarden. I usually recommend bitwarden or proton pass. (I’m self-hosting vaultwarden). More privacy focus YouTubers need to promote bitwarden, keepassxc etc. (I’m waiting for proton pass self-hosting option).

Thanks for clarification. That always bugged me.

I don’t know what technology YouTube uses, but I can easily play videos directly on YouTube even with my poor internet speed. However, other front-ends like Piped, FreeTube, GrayJay, NewPipe, LibreTube, and Invidious struggle to stream videos smoothly and experience too much buffering.

We should be appreciating open-source AI. If you stay in one place, you can’t grow.

Aurora store and F-droid will be your besties, you don’t need play store unless you have purchased something.

What are some of your favourite searx instances? I know I’m going to get some heat for this, but because of how slow searx can be + missing search results forcing me to use brave search. I usually use brave search over ddg.

Any tips for searx to make it faster etc. would be appreciated
