It seems sort of a waste of resources to use a steam deck as a stationary device. However, I don’t think there is a really large market for a console-like steam machine.

As of this source, the difference is merely 3% in performance. Not worth it, IMO.

I found a price info in the forums:

What price I can expect? Base Model 7840u 16GB/512GB will be 499$ or 4099 CNY Base Model 8840u 16GB/512GB will be 599$ or 4499 CNY

Edit: The same source says there is a touch screen

The 7520u’s performance is roughly a quarter of the Steam Deck’s, making it suboptimal for gaming. However, I came across this video demonstrating the CPU running Cyberpunk 2077 at 13 fps, albeit not playable. Considering this, it suggests that CS2 should be playable; there might be issues with drivers or the CS2 installation.

The year of the wayland Linux desktop!

I’m not sure if a steam laptop would be successful. You can install steam on most laptops on the market (with some exceptions like ARM-based laptops or chomebooks). Same applies to a “steam console”, just pick any small PC and put steam in autostart.

However, the deck features innovative controls and a rare form factor. There is just no device that has the same feature set as the steam deck.

I hope that this improve in the coming months. The list is now twice as long as it was half a year ago. (And in theory, one could install steam in developer mode anyway, but that is not very convenient)

Last time I checked, steam on Chromebooks was only available on some selected models (not including the one I have). Has this changed? If not, this announcement will be for very few users (but still welcome).

I would be surprised if this would be possible. It seems that the revision is quite substantial.

This is the second month in a row we’ve seen Simplified Chinese jump up. This time it shows it at 45.93% (+13.71%), which for a single month is pretty huge swing. This has resulted in Windows 10 64 bit hitting 65.58% (+7.61%), sitting well above Windows 11. Every time this uptick in Simplified Chinese use on Steam happens, it brings down the results of everything else.

Honestly, the data quality of the steam surveys seems not optimal. It appears that their “randomness” is flawed.

Just another lemmy instance. Due to the similarity with reddit, many lemmy instances are called feddit, e.g. feddit.de, feddit.co.uk and feddit.se

Forcing FSR1 is possible (and was even possible before it was on Windows), FSR2 is not.

This is just one game with one particular graphics card, this might not be the same for example with nvidia cards.

The YouTube channel "Maximum Fury" conducted a technical test of the new Cyberpunk add-on called "Phantom Liberty" on an older AMD hardware system, testing it separately on Linux and Windows 11. The Linux system, specifically the Fedora distribution called Nobara, performed significantly better, delivering 31% more frames compared to Windows 11. The hardware used for testing included an Asrock B550 motherboard with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU and an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT GPU from the first RDNA generation, along with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. The CPU, RAM, and GPU were overclocked, and the system utilized undervolting to save energy costs. When testing the game at 1080p resolution with high textures, the Linux system achieved an average of 63.72 frames per second (fps), while Windows 11 managed only 48.55 fps. This suggests that the game should run noticeably smoother on the Linux system.
