I only know two visble options in terms of credibility and costs per feature ratio: Posteo and mailbox.

Proton should be avoided since their descructive behaviour regarding critique and their baclground. Tutanota is to be avoided since they only support their own client. That leaves us with no flexibility and a smack of something.

This happens unfortunately more often since a year or so with Tor as well. It should not depend on DNS because I use always Mullvad. I guess, it’s a weird blocking behaviour.

That’s why I switched to brave and use startpage much less

Answer is simple as always: As much privacy as possible.

So here the question was: Does account creation in this situation affect privacy? It is meaningless, what the threat model is, the answer is always the same.

Example: All data you type in for account registration but do not for purchase.

Easyer tracking directly and indirectly. Data broker use all they can get to identify you, so cross site tracking happens whenever you provide same phone number or mail.

Being able to switch these data points is helpful for privacy. And switching is easyer without accounts.

Some people obviously do not know what they are talking about. Telegram stores clear text chat messages on their servers. That’s not even near privacy

As your are talking about privacy friendly alternatives, the answer is none, because they would immediately lose their privacy friendlyness

Decentralized services habe one huge advantage: Most people don’t unterstand, how it works, where to register and do on. Additionally federation comes with lots of additional to get most of connections.

Therefore: Centralized is definitely the way but not using shitty big tech. Maybe backup infrastructure could also be a way.

And Proton? Couldn’t stop laughing.

Availability: Direct download via Repo or developer web page is missing. Google shouldn’t be a plus. The provided explanation in the last thread was invalid

When confronted, the developer claimed screenshots were only taken of suspicious sites and were encrypted

??? What’s the point? If you collect sensitive data, it doesn’t matter if you transfer them encrypted or not. What a bullshit argument. You still collect it.

I wonder if he is ashamed of himself.

You post here and can delete here. If someone copies you content, you aren’t in control of deletion anymore

More context please. Where did you set the DNS? Smartphone, desktop? In browser or on system settings?

Assuming the following: You set the general DNS on your AOSP based smartphone to Mullvad and use Tor bowser simultaneously.

This is perfectly fine as Tor browser uses its own DNS. They won’t interfere.

If that’s the case, you don’t need an exception but use other websites. Never lower privacy settings if something like thus occurs

Yes, they do.
‘But it’s end to end encrypred’ 🙄

You can use Google, Microsoft, Apple and co however you want, the problem is, what you use

Had the same problem but the search engine wasn’t only switched, startpage was completely removed.
I hope, this was an exception. Glad to see an already opened issue

No longer maitained since half a year ago. Please stop using and recommending it

Depends on the user.

For me it’s uBlock Origin, NoScript, Cookie AutoDelete and Binnen-I be gone

They already has these but made changed (they would say enhancements) to it. Unfortunately nothing relevant was included, but we waited more than two month for an update and we got one with patch level from two month ago. That is ridiculous.

Updates are not every month like exactly the last version proofs. Unfortunately delayed security updates are the major issue when using /e/

The point was privacy. Calyx has the philosophy that sending data to Google is good so you do not appear as unusual. But they forget that you can’t be detected by Google as an unusual user if you do not connect to Google at all.

Nonsense. Lineage calls Google and is not privacy respecting. /e/ is much better in terms of privacy.

No it doesn’t. What is a need? It is for troll and spam and bot protection. How does the links show that there is no need for it?

WhatsApp claim to use this. They do not show their code nor did they do any kind of audit. Therefore we have to assume that there is no encryption.

Oh yeah, that’s what parents need… Do you need some medical help?

Consent coming from those, that did not sign Tte contract obviously…

They blocked all the time. If you weren’t Blockes before, it was luck.

If privacy is your topic, iPhones are out.
You could check /e/OS for example with Fairphone that includes parental control feature.
Your parents do not matter in this context and it would be shameful to use such features.

Avoid tracking apps and tracking in apps. Avoid big tech like Meta and use Signal instead. If your child is not willing to do without Tiktok, Insta and so on, you won’t prevent. You can only explain. Remember: Divice literacy is not media literacy

making Tuta Mail the world’s first email provider that can protect emails from quantum computer attacks.

I don’t see how mails are secured when being sended from or to a Tutanota user and to or from a non Tutanota user. Those mails are only secured on their servers.

This. You can’t use your client, not on your phone nor on your PC. Therefore Tutanota was never a viable option

They changed some basics from Mull and decided to go other ways. That’s why I’m not using thus browser

Hell no. The oposite. He is in favour for chat control. Thus going to be the end for freedom and democracy in Europe

But it’s Telegram. Avoiding laws, their registered office tells us enough. No encryption (only in a few cases after one’s own initiative). I don’t see a better option.
