Google has a massive leg up in its technology and use cases so everyone uses it. The guy described it as a “1%” problem (as in the last percent of use cases that are hard to add to the app) and Google doesn’t have as many of those.


Why are you asking for their consent? You’re using their personal data on the basis of your legitimate interest.



You don’t need to be a lawyer to say something is illegal. In this instance I’m talking about the antitrust case in the 90s against Microsoft which declared that restricting features of desktop OSes to certain apps to be illegal.





I hate these “news” articles which just summarize something else freely available on the Internet.




Oh yes the “Matrix ‘leaks’ metadata” argument. It’s needed for federation. If you need full metadata protection your ONLY options are Signal and Session.




This is most people’s reaction to using Windows for any reason.




The article doesn’t say it is used for training data, it’s to “personalize” the “ai” to you. Not that I believe that for a second.



We need an antitrust law that defines a monopoly by size/revenue of company statically by percent of US GDP, US wealth, or revenue in a particular industry. Not something g that allows the “well it feels fine” kind of defense these companies can pull.


That webpage has an uncrossable pop-up that shows me the button to save the article. It covers up the majority of the first paragraph.


But that’s not possible. It has to have some kind of 64 bit binary. It uses well over 4GiB of RAM.
