you and my dad both. he’s been using it forever

yeah, on android it’s kind of a pain. but being able to use extensions is insanely good.

they’ll send you a replacement, but they take weeks to reply

i second getting a fairphone, but look into a second battery or a power bank for heavy use.

Fairphone 4 user here, i love it. but ghost touch keeps coming back, i’m on my second screen now.

i daily a Fairphone 4, has neither the best camera nor the best battery life. but it’s the most repairable and durable phone i’ve owned.

i’ve had extremely good experieces with oneplus phones, dunno about custom ROM support though.

i’ve also heard good things about modern motorola phones, if the ROM support is there it’s worth a shot imo.

same, haven’t strayed from standard firefox since it does what i want just fine.

literally every brand does this, but toyota seems to be one of the worst offenders.

relevant

good thing i drive a 2002 which still has a casette player.

that’s interesting to learn. cool of them to implement it despite there not (directly) being anything in it for them.

as long as you save it as a compatible .doc .docx or something, it should work. obviously word can’t open a .odt file.

you can even rotate a PDF without having to pay for a subscription. i’m looking at you, adobe acrobat.

i do already dual boot mint cinnamon edition on my computer, whenever i’m curious i’ll try to run a certain application. and most of the time it’ll work just fine.

i have problems with gaming, mostly. there was a time where fusion360 didn’t work vecause it required edge for login, but i believe it’s been patched.

i use a Trustmaster T300, a stream deck (which is “compatible”), and play some online games with anticheat. i get that there’s a runtime for battleye and easy anti-cheat alteady, but it’s (to my knowledge) impossible to play fortnite.

if i ever bought a laptop, i would install linux no problem. but my use case is in the very early stages of even being possible. believe me, i WANT to use linux. i just don’t want to create too much work passing through usb devices to a VM or rebooting just to play beam.ng.

that’s awesome to hear, my library of play store apps is still quite large and includes a number of games, which likely rely on google services.

once it becomes possible without missing out on much, i’ll switch for sure. i will do the same with linux btw.

for now, i’ll have to wait for the EU to pass more privacy laws.

the Fairphone 4 is supposed to work well without google, open camera even has access to the wide angle camera.

LineageOS, /e/OS, and ubuntu mobile seem to be popular options.

but of course everything google won’t work. that means almost all playstore apps as well. what a lame dystopia this is.

because the other options are living like a caveman, or buying into a walled garden that will fuck you over every step of the way.

i don’t blame you. try to use as many privacy-respecting apps as possible though, once degoogled android becomes mainstream you can easily switch.

one could argue it already is, but many workplaces mandate the use of microsoft or google products. the monopoly/duopoly is real right now.

own an A229 pro. you can disable GPS and any other nasty features on there, and you can use it without the app afterwards. just take out the sd card. also doesn’t have any network bullshit in the app, since you connect to the cam directly through wifi.

do recommend, there’s a shortage of these for a reason.

good thing no one in my circle uses sms anymore. a lot of them still use whatsapp, but i’ve convinced my immediate family to use signal at least.

i think openboard might be the thing OP is looking for. not using that feature myself, but it seems to be on par with the others i’ve used.

that’s the thing. we have 5 Toyotas in our family, a couple of ancient VWs (like 70s, rarely drive any of them) and a single ford transit nugget with a westfalia camper pack.

that thing barely has 80k on it, and it has had numerous electrical problems, and we were stranded on the autobahn at least 4 times. even the variable turbo thingy got stuck (garrett turbo btw).

long story short, either buy 20+ year old cars, or stick to tpyota and honda.

never buy a ford. ecoboost engines especially. you’ll be lucky if it lasts even 50k.

not even that. there’s LS-400s that have 1M miles / 1,6M km and still use the first engine and transmission.

the engine in my car (1SZ-FE) is known to regularly last 400.000 km. it barely has 100k after 20 years of being a grocery getter for an elderly woman, and the engine shows literally no signs of wear. you drain exactly the amount that goes in.

Rii makes some cool mini keyboards with touchpads on them.

better get a H.A.N.S. device, your crumple zones mean nothing now. /lh (just in case)

toyotas are typically outdated. my 2002 car has a cassette deck, but no CD player. i can imagine a car from 2010 barely being able to recieve DAB.

that car will last 20 more years anyway, so i’ll just wait this dystopian shit out. why “upgrade” when your car starts every morning and gets 35-40mpg?

going after the people who want to consume your product isn’t how you increase profits.

making it less convoluted to watch movies is.

i’ve recently figured out how dynamic DNSs work, i am unstoppable.

now i just need to figure out how to encrypt traffic…

do. not. connect. your. TV. to. the. internet.

i would recommend using an SBC as a video input device (single board computer) and using whatever service through that. (ideally under linux)

privacy comes first, what happens on my device stays on my device. and if i send a funny cat picture to my mom, you bet your ass i’m gonna use a VPN and the most private messenger i know of.

if someone does a crime, they will have enough evidence without being able to look at chatlogs.

once again, the streisand effect at play. great job fucking your profits by trying to restrict people on the internet.

i’m pretty lucky to have unlimited data included with my phone plan. i would 100% have been hacked by now. public wifi is scary.

no headphone jack, no buy. bought the FP4 thinking “it can’t be that bad”. how wrong i was.
