it used to be cheaper, and with an audio jack. Add some environment and social consideration and I see many reasons to buy it.

Or you can buy a Google phone from Amazon and text about privacy or freeing Palestine while sipping your Starbucks coffee in your Tesla car.

Not everything has to be about how much do you personally get for the money you give.

I am so glad I could get the Faiphone 3 while it still had an audio jack. At that time the hardware was not too far behind, still too much for my use which is mainly scrolling through obscure left-ish forums and YouTube channels (thanks newpipe) and startups late-stage capitalist hacker news (I don’t know any better about tech).

They won’t go to jail, period. No company owners never go to jail, kinda ever. This phrase is out of proportion. At worse they would have a fine.

Also still in the blog everything is words and very opaque like " We do this not only through technology and advocacy (Proton has contributed over $500,000 toward defending these values around the world)" : like where, what, when?

“There was no legal possibility to resist or fight this particular request.” : I doubt very much unless Switzerland is a dictatorship in disguise.

“Switzerland generally will not assist prosecutions from countries without fair justice systems.” : clearly not.

It is a nice PR but for me I am not impressed. Rolex is also a non profit organization in Switzerland and and mostly help hiding there finance.

Correct me if I am wrong but all I see is words and promises. I would trust them if they release the yearly finance transparently.

For now the only act I can judge them on is their collaboration with police to give ecologist activists IP.

Interesting, it’s sad that for me the search is quiet garbage and feed me with result based on my IP/location and I couldn’t find a option to change that like DDG does.

We always had. Many people wrote personal notes/letters in cryptic ways to prevent unwanted readers from deciphering it.

Imagine a word where we would teach children not to make their own cypher because this is illegal. What a distopian society.

Self hosting gitea : https://about.gitea.com/ is going to give you the github UX. You can also go for the forked forgejo : https://forgejo.org/.

Gitea is getting into corporation/IP territory while forgejo is 100% community driven.

Self-hosting might feels intimidating for some but once you have your server the speed and “snappiness” feels insane.

Basically a startup founded by rich guys (investing 200,000 euros) getting some state grants trying to sell crypto-friendly VPN (see the white paper). SPN stands for “Safing Privacy Network” (Safing being the company brand). Nothing new nor nice + marketing lies (VPN not being open-sourced nor easy…).

Making your own email box is such a pain -> reverse DNS needs to be set up, your are very lucky if your ISP offers you such a service.

email is one of the worst protocol I ever touch no wonder there are nearly no email client out there.

I can only hope for a brighter future with any other protocol.

The real news to me is that more than 3M people are naive/desperate enough to use such a product (and omg 99$ a month).

Just ‘startup’ is a red flag to me, if it is related to health or anything that should definitely be public services it is already scam. So no surprise it is super shady.
