Web pages were loading in the foreign language my VPN was in, so I tried using a free proxy but couldn’t find a reliable way to make that work. Any suggestions?

much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)
You need to set it to your own country.
Unless there’s another place with a majority of people who speak the same language. Then, you can set the VPN to that country instead.
If you’re comfortable with English, I’d set it to English instead. It’s a bit less specific, so it’s another ‘layer’ that makes collecting data on you *a bit* less accurate.
The best would be to keep the language as it is, but it’s not really realistic…
VPN to the virgin islands, should be in English then and they are basically not enforcing anything, if not that try Belize, basically the same story.
Ireland is also a option or Switzerland if nothing else woks route through TOR
On your VPN, choose a location within your country. There is little sense in choosing another country, if you want the website to think you are in your own country.
Of course this assumes, that your VPN has multiple exit nodes.
I use mullvad VPN but Turkey doesn’t exist in that, for some reason
It’s because the website is trying to guess your country by the IP you’re using instead of browser useragent. Don’t know anything to change that, only change the language on the page if possible
use the tunnel located in your country?
If your country gets warrant happy, wouldn’t having a VPN in a more privacy friendly or non-five-eyes country be better? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Eyes
If you’re worried about your government, then you shouldn’t be using a VPN, you should be using Tor Browser to stay anonymous.
Can’t have it both ways. Either you use your own country and then (if geoip works) it also thinks that you are there or use another and then it will think you are there.
