Nice honeypot you cheeky agent
Did you mean to leak your email in that screenshot?
David you should cover your email address ASAP
David, stop worrying so much David.
Lol whoops
I couldn’t find where to opt-out in that link, but this worked:
Thanks, worked for me
That would also make it impossible to find my phone when I need to… I mean I’m not surprised they tied this new feature to the one we actually need.
I use KDE Connect for a simple way to find where I’ve left my phone at home or work (it has some really handy other features too in an open source program). If you need to locate it anywhere, even if it’s in airplane mode, you’re probably going to have to sacrifice privacy for that.
Thanks.
Kinda ironic that you didn’t cover your email address in a privacy community

Imagine using a custom, bloated mess that most vendors put on devices, with garbage that runs in the background that can’t be disabled or removed without breaking something.

GrapheneOS is the only reason I’m willing to come within 30 miles of using Android
What would you use instead?
Flip phone and a palm pilot haha

Does opting out actually stop you from being tracked or simply prevent you from seeing results of that data?
From what I understand, and I am likely wrong, there is no way to mask your devices from other users who have joined.
Strictly speaking, if being trackable is an issue for you, you shouldn’t run around with bluetooth enabled in the first place. And incidentally, no BT means no find my device either.
If someone you’re with has a phone on them, even if it’s off, you’re probably being tracked.
Ha! I gave up that fight long ago. I just try not to make it easy for them.
Just sort of pointing out this tracking network (like many others already running) is happening whether you opt out or not.
The opt out part is just security theater for your peace of mind.
Keep in mind they (Google, Apple, Amazon, etc) must still comply with government warrants. Probably pre-encryption.

I realise I have Google account, convenience at the cost of privacy. Just irks me that it’s not opt in because if it were, their system would be less useful, and we can’t give people informed consent can we…
Dude you’re doxxing yourself…delete the post or edit the screen shot.
Classic David
