In my country, that’s a hard bargain, as we need certain apps that rely on gapps to identify ourselves in formal dealings with nation, county and city actors. But yeah, Graphene’s sandboxed Google Play Services would be a good start for me.
I highly doubt a smartphone is a requirement. They probably have an alternative you’re not considering
The general attitude is that you are required to be digitally literate and that you have the “required” equipment. Just like many businesses nowadays take it for granted that you have a card to pay with.
Most governments have laws that force companies to accept legal tender.
Yeah, just install GrapheneOS, set up your initial profile without anything Google, then configure the secondary profile with GMS and everything else you need to run with Google on it.
That’s how I have both phones, and I only visit the profile with Google services if I absolutely need to. Once dine, I log out that user until I need it again.
